Thrills Under the Lights: Tri-City Raceway Park Delivers Unforgettable "Six Pack + Two" Night of Racing

A picture-perfect night of racing took over Tri-City Raceway Park on Friday, August 8, as fans were treated to a stacked “Six Pack + Two” program filled with fast cars, fierce battles, and feature wins that won’t be forgotten anytime soon. Thanks to the generosity of Virgile Iron & Steel and Shook’s Garage, the first 210 fans got in free, and the racing action more than delivered on the promise of a high-octane evening.

The Hovis Auto & Truck Supply 410 Sprint Car 25-lap feature was all about Ricky Peterson, who wasted no time taking control from the drop of the green flag. Peterson opened up a strong lead early while Jeremy Weaver chipped away lap by lap, closing in as the race reached its final stretch. On lap 23, Weaver went all in with a last-ditch effort to make the pass, but a blown right rear tire brought out the only caution of the race and ended his charge. That left smooth sailing for Peterson over the final two laps as he cruised to his third win of the season at Tri-City. “This track was awesome, and I had three grooves to choose from, but the high side was perfect,” Peterson said in victory lane. “We love coming here. The owners definitely have this place moving in the right direction. It was a great night.” Brandon Matus scored a season-best second-place finish at Tri-City, followed by Matt Farnham, Bob Felmlee, and Adam Kekich. Despite the heartbreak, Weaver rallied after his tire was replaced and fought back to finish sixth.

In the make-up 410 Sprint Car feature from July 18, it was Matt Farnham who stole the spotlight. The Towanda, NY driver jumped out front early and never looked back, cruising until a lap 8 caution for Steve Bright’s crash in turn two. Once racing resumed, Farnham pulled away again and captured his fourth career win at Tri-City. “We’ve been fast all year here and just needed a break. We finally got one tonight,” he said. “This track is so fast—it really fits my style.” Jeremy Weaver with a last lap pass on Peterson to finish second. Peterson settled for third, with Bob Felmlee fourth and Matus again solid in fifth.

The Flea Flicker Super Late Model 25-lap feature was nothing short of a clinic put on by Jared Miley, who wasted no time taking the lead from Bob Dorman just two laps in. Once out front, Miley rode the high line and never looked back, checking out from the field to win by over seven seconds for his second victory of the season and fourth career win at Tri-City. “We absolutely love racing here,” Miley said. “This track was perfect tonight, and with all the work the Shiffers are putting into this place, it’s only going to get better.” Greg Oakes finished a strong second in his first Tri-City appearance of the year, followed by Bob Dorman, Jon Lee—who earned a $200 bonus as the top Marion Center Speedway regular—and Josh Ferry.

The 21st Century Energy Group Big Block Modifieds ran caution-free for 20 laps with Jim Rasey going wire-to-wire to grab his fifth career win at Tri-City—and his first in five years. But it wasn’t easy. Rasey had to be perfect every lap with Erick Rudolph glued to his bumper. “Wow, this was fun,” Rasey said. “This track was fast and perfect for my driving style. Beating the 25 car (Rudolph) is never easy—and doing it in one of his old cars? That makes this win extra special.” Rudolph held on for second, followed by Brad Rapp, Mike Kinney, and Tom Holden.

The Complete Car Care Center RUSH Sprint Car 20-lap feature had its share of wild moments, including two red flags for separate flips involving Zach Wilson and later Luke Mulichak. But once the dust settled, it was Blaze Myers who rose above the chaos. Myers took the lead with a daring three-wide pass into turn three and held it through the final eight laps to score his seventh win of the season—and 12th career win at the track, making him the all-time leader in the division. “This is big,” Myers said. “Ted Hull and I are just in a groove here this season, and every win is just so special.” Rounding out the top five were Wyatt Long, Trent Marshall, Ricky Tucker II, and Arnie Kent.

In Shawgo Real Estate Pro Stock action, the 20-lap A-Main saw Josh Seippel lead the first five laps until a caution for Rod Laskey, who broke something in the front end. On the restart, Seippel chose the inside, giving Curt Bish the high lane—and that’s all Bish needed. He powered around the outside off turn two and never looked back, grabbing his second win in a row and seventh career Tri-City victory. “We love racing here,” Bish said. “The track is so fast and just suits our driving style. It’s a blast to get up on the wheel.” Seippel finished second, followed by Jake Whitling, Russ Coyne, and Pat Fielding.

The July 18 Pro Stock make-up feature belonged to Mike Miller, who took the lead from Fielding on a restart after three separate cautions shook up the race. Fielding led the opening laps, but a wheel fell off Curt Bish’s car, and the race restarted with Fielding and Miller side-by-side. Miller used the high side to his advantage and drove off for his third win of the year. “We were good on the top and just needed momentum to get around the 23 car,” Miller said. “It feels so good to win again here this season.” Fielding held onto second, with Jake Whitling, Russ Coyne, and Sonny Baker rounding out the top five.

Finally, the Clarion County Community Bank RUSH Stock feature saw Billy Myers dominate from green to checkers for his fourth win of the season. Point leader Raidden Wilson finished second, followed by Darr Diegelman, William Baker Jr., and Jim Buchanan.
