FRANKLIN, PA – Championship Night at Tri-City Raceway Park gave race fans everything they came for— long-awaited milestones, and six drivers who got to call themselves track champions for the very first time. The historic half-mile in Venango County was in prime condition, and with perfect weather and a strong crowd in the stands, the atmosphere was electric all evening long.
The night kicked off with the Hovis Auto & Truck Supply 410 Sprint Cars, where Ricky Peterson made a clean sweep of the 25-lap feature. The driver of the #98 machine went wire-to-wire, but it was anything but easy. Jeremy Weaver was never more than a car length away, staying locked onto Peterson’s rear bumper and throwing multiple challenges his way. Peterson held strong, crossing the line first for his fourth win of the season. “I want to thank all the fans for coming out, and the track owners for giving us one of the best surfaces we’ve had all year,” said Peterson. “We’ve had a good season and can’t wait to see what’s next.”
Behind them, the points battle was down to the wire. Weaver and Brandon Matus were separated by just nine points going into the feature. With Weaver finishing second and Matus in third, that was enough to swing the title in Weaver’s favor. Thirteen points was the final margin, giving Weaver his first career track championship. The emotions poured out in Victory Lane. “We did it!!!” he shouted, eyes wet with joy. “My mom and dad know what I’ve had to go through to get here. This means everything.” He thanked his crew, sponsors, and especially car owner Bob McMillin, whose famous #5 car has been a fixture in Western PA racing for decades. In fact, this was McMillin’s first Tri-City track title since 1975, when Ted Wise earned the crown. Rounding out the top five behind Matus were Bob Felmlee and Logan McCandless. Heat race wins went to Matus and Dusty Larson, but the heats saw some tense moments as well—Matt Farnham flipped in Turn 3 (he was okay), and Andy Cavanaugh’s car caught fire after a fuel line issue. Major credit to Brent Matus and the safety crew for jumping in fast and keeping everyone safe.
Over in the Flea Flickers Super Late Models, it was another clinic from Max Blair, who set a scorching pace from the drop of the green. He led all 25 laps and held off a mid-race challenge from Jared Miley, adjusting his line just enough to pull away for his third win of the season at Tri-City, and fifth career victory—tying him with Dick Barton for second all-time at the track. “We just love coming here,” Blair said. “This place keeps getting better every week, and the surface tonight was awesome. Big thanks to the Shiffers and all the fans.” Miley finished second, followed by Josh Ferry, Darrell Bossard, and Bob Dorman. Dorman also claimed the heat race win.
The championship battle in the Late Models came down to Ferry and Bossard, and it couldn’t have been closer. Bossard had a one-point lead coming into the night, but Ferry flipped it in the heat, giving him a two-point edge going into the feature. He finished one spot ahead of Bossard, and that gave him the title by just four points. “It’s hard to believe this is our first full season in a Late Model, and we’re standing here as champions,” said Ferry. “It’s just a really special night for our whole team.”
The Shawgo Real Estate Pro Stocks were another highlight of the night. Rod Laskey jumped out front early and led the first nine laps, but a caution for Charlie McMillen’s blown tire reset the field. Laskey held strong for another lap, but then Curt J. Bish—a.k.a. Mr. Highside—came charging. After starting eighth, Bish found grip up top and ripped past Laskey on lap 11, cruising to his third win in a row and eighth overall, tying him with Laskey and Bossard on the division’s all-time list. “We’ve found something lately, and it’s been working,” Bish said. “After we destroyed the car early in the season, this feels awesome. We’ve got momentum now.” Laskey came home second, followed by Josh Seippel, Jake Whitling, and Matt Bernard.
Meanwhile, Mike Miller quietly locked up his first track championship in the Pro Stocks. His sixth-place finish was just enough to beat Whitling by four points. “Finally all the hard work and effort paid off,” Miller said. “It’s been a long road to get here, and this is definitely a night I’ll never forget.”
Friday night was also a banner night for Brad Rapp, who put on a clinic in the 21st Century Energy Group Big Block Modifieds. Rapp won everything he touched—the heat race, the make-up feature from July 18th, and the regular 25-lap feature. In the main event, Steve Feder led early and looked strong, but Rapp steadily reeled him in and made his move on lap 20, taking the lead coming off Turn 4 and holding it for the final six laps. Then he went out and dominated the make-up race, leading every lap with just one brief caution for Jim Rasey’s stopped car. “Wow… after all these years trying to get this done, to finally climb that mountain means everything,” said Rapp. “It takes a little luck, a great team, and a lot of heart. We’re going to enjoy this one tonight.” With the sweep, Rapp clinched his first track title in the Big Blocks, capping a dream night.
The Complete Car Care Center RUSH Sprint Cars saw yet another victory for Blaze Myers, who’s been nearly unstoppable in 2025. This one didn’t come easy though—Samantha Priest, just 14 years old, jumped out front and led the first five laps with calm and confidence. After a caution for Matt Urey, Myers used the restart to pounce, slipping by Priest coming off Turn 4. From there, he pulled away for his eighth win of the season and record-setting 13th career win at Tri-City. That win also earned him his first track championship. “It’s hard to believe how our season has gone,” Myers said. “At the start of the year, I didn’t even have a ride. We weren’t even planning to race. I’m just thankful I got the chance to drive for Ted and Cal Hull, and that my girlfriend pushed me to do it. Best decision ever.”
In the Clarion County Community Bank RUSH Stock Cars, it was Kaden Michael making the most of his first trip to Tri-City. After a lap-seven caution, he found a line and powered around Raidden Wilson to lead the final eight laps and grab his first-ever win at the track. “This was fun,” Michael said. “The track was real racy, and we had some good battles getting to the front. I’ll definitely be back.” Wilson, who led the first seven laps and finished third, still had reason to celebrate—he clinched the inaugural RUSH Stock Car track championship. “To be the first champion in this class at Tri-City is something I’ll always remember,” Wilson said. “We worked hard all season, and this is for the whole team.”
