Inside Line Promotions – ALGER, Wash. (Aug. 25, 2025) – Trey Starks made the most of a final tune-up at Skagit Speedway prior to this week’s Skagit Nationals presented by 26 Promotions.
Starks swept the non-points 410ci winged sprint car program at Skagit Speedway and he finished second in the 360ci winged sprint car main event to all but wrap up his second straight track championship in the division.
“We got the laps we were looking for,” he said. “It was crucial in the 410. During qualifying we had a nose wing post break that resulted in the nose wing falling down halfway through our qualifying run. Just that right there made it all worth it because we got to iron out some kinks.
“We set quick time during qualifying. Then we started on the pole of the heat race and won that. Then we started on the pole of the feature and won that. We felt good all night. We got to get a handle on the car after not being in it for awhile and we got to feel out the track. To be able to win it was kind of a bonus.”
Starks also set quick time to open up the action in the 360 division.
“We drew the last pill so going out last and being able to go quick time felt good,” he said. “We went from fourth to third in the heat race and got some good laps for the feature. We drew the No. 3, which put us starting third in the feature. We fell to fourth on the start and got into third about 10 laps in. We challenged for second for a couple of laps around the midway point. Ultimately, we got into second when Cam (Smith) had an issue late in the race. At the end of the day, (Jason) Solwold was slightly better than us. We have some things to work on in the 360 car. It was good laps for sure and gave us some insight for the 410 car. With the 360 races being before the 410s all night it got to help us in the 410.”
Starks currently holds a 76-point lead in the championship standings with one points race remaining. He simply needs to just attempt to compete in that race to garner the title.
First up, the track welcomes Kubota High Limit Racing this Thursday through Saturday for a crown jewel event.
“I think we’re the same as we have been all year,” Starks said. “Going into the big shows we know there will be elite competition and we have to do everything right. At the end of the day, if we do everything right we’ll be in the mix. We’ll have to be really good to compete with them between the High Limit guys and the Skagit guys. I think it’ll be a pretty good fight and we’re hoping to be up there in the mix.”
Starks will wrap up the weekend with a race on Sunday at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash.
