Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (Sept. 1, 2025) – Kaleb Johnson capped the Huset’s Speedway season on Sunday by earning his first top-10 result of the year with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series.
The Team DGRD driver qualified 19th quickest and advanced from fifth to fourth place during a heat race. Johnson continued to move forward in the L.G. Everist Huset’s Shootout presented by Myrl & Roy’s Paving feature, maneuvering from 15th to 10th for his third career top 10 during World of Outlaws competition.
“I think it went pretty solid,” he said. “We were able to move forward in the heat race on a track that was tough to pass on. Then we moved forward in the feature. To get our first top 10 with the Outlaws this season was a great way to end our year at Huset’s.”
It marked his second top 10 of the weekend at the high-banked track. The team kicked off the busy weekend on Friday during the Bull Haulers Brawl presented by Folkens Brothers Trucking, which was the final points race of the season at Huset’s Speedway.
Johnson timed in fifth quickest in his group and he placed fifth in a heat race. He hustled from 14th to ninth in the A Main.
“We tried changing a couple of things right after hot laps and unfortunately we went the wrong way,” he said. “Then we didn’t get a good start in the heat race and eight laps go by quick. I felt decent in the A Main. We had been fast there all year. I was able to get up to eighth right before halfway. Then there was a red flag. I felt I could make decent speed on the top and that’s where people weren’t, but after the restart the car got super tight and it wasn’t the lane to be in.”
Johnson’s ninth-place result dropped him to second in the championship standings as he finished only five points behind the champion Ryan Timms.
“It definitely stings, but at the end of the day life goes on,” Johnson said. “A half a tenth better in qualifying and it changes everything, but it is what it is. We still had a good year. We just had bad nights at the wrong time. Congrats to Ryan and his team. They are one of the hottest teams in the country. If I had to lose to anyone I’m at least glad it was him.”
Johnson will head to Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis., this Friday and Saturday for the 25th annual Jerry Richert Memorial with the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series.
“I’m looking forward to it,” he said. “It’s one of my favorite tracks. It usually gets super wide and racy.”
