Inside Line Promotions – ALGER, Wash. (Sept. 2, 2025) – Trey Starks ended the Skagit Nationals presented by 26 Promotions on a positive note last weekend.

Most of the Kubota High Limit Racing event hosted by Skagit Speedway was frustrating for Starks, who rallied from 22nd to 12th in the A Main on Saturday to garner the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.

“Those two preliminary nights resulted in not a good points score going into the final night,” he said. “On Saturday, we started fifth and ran fifth in the qualifier. Looking back on it, having to run the B Main was what allowed us to make improvements to our car. It gave us another chance to tune. We picked our way up to second to transfer into the main event. We knew we were getting better so we made a few more changes for the feature. We marched our way up through there and avoided a wreck or two. The feature was when I felt best pretty much all weekend. We were able to maneuver pretty well. I’m happy with how we were by the end of it, but at those big shows you can’t take any nights off and with being off in speed on Friday and having some bad luck on Thursday, it made us have to claw our way from the back.”

The event began on Thursday with Starks qualifying fifth quickest.

“We started off strong by qualifying fifth,” he said. “We were set up pretty well if we made it through the heat race. Unfortunately, before we even got to the finish line our weekend took a turn for the worse. We started on the inside of the third row and fired off pretty good, but I took contact at the right front and that sent me spinning across to the infield. We ended up eighth in that race and that put us in the B Main. That was kind of a mess as well. We were running third and the track was pretty chunky. In the middle of (turns) three and four I had a bunch of chunks of dirt hit me in the face and it knocked my visor open. We ended up spinning out. We had to go to the back and while trying to pick our way through there something broke. The car took a hard right and we ended in the backstretch wall.”

That was the first race since Aug. 31, 2023, that Starks didn’t advance into the A Main.

Friday was slightly better as Starks timed in 24th quickest and placed second in a heat race to make the main event.

“The track conditions were vastly different than Thursday and we got caught behind,” he said. “Our car wasn’t quite where we needed it to be. We ran second in the heat race and that put us starting 19th in the feature. We just ran around there the whole race. We dug ourselves in a hole during the preliminary nights that was pretty hard to get out of.”

Up next, Starks will head east to drive for Jason Meyers Racing this Thursday through Saturday during the Kubota High Limit Racing’s Tuscarora 50 at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa.

“When he reached out it’s not something I’d normally do because we stay busy here and the amount we race is pretty much the maximum I can get away, but it’s a unique opportunity,” he said. “The main thing is I’m really interested in working with Jason Meyers Racing and the guys there because they have a good operation and also Port Royal is one of my favorite tracks. It seemed like an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. It’s a really cool race and I’m eager to get back out there and on that track.”
