Pokorski rebounds with IRA career best at Cedar Lake

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) September 9, 2025 – Alex Pokorski flipped a streak of sour luck into something oh so sweet as the 26-year-old Sprint Car racer steering his No. 4 Akright Auto-backed car to a career-best second place showing with the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series in the 25th annual Jerry Richert Memorial at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis. on Saturday, Sept. 6.

Utilizing a borrowed motor from Russ Wetenkamp and the GR8 Racing Team, the West Bend, Wis. native started the two-night event on a strong note as he qualified eighth overall in a stellar 46-car field before placing third in the second heat race to earn a coveted spot in the 30-lap A main on Friday, Sept. 5.

However, a motor issue was detected after the heat race, which forced the team to scratch from the remainder of the program.

After bolting in another motor courtesy of GR8, Pokorski returned for night two of the Jerry Richert Memorial on Saturday, Sept. 6, with a $10,000 first place prize on the line.

Heavy rain delayed the start of Saturday’s racing program and forced the format to shift from qualifying and dash invert to heat race draw and passing points.

The heat race draw worked in Pokorski’s favor as he pulled the outside front row starting spot in the first 10-lap IRA heat race. The fifth-year driver used a good jump to outpower polesitter Tyler Brabant to take the lead on the opening lap.

Pokorski went on to lead every lap on the way to his first career IRA heat race win on the extremely tacky, narrow and undulating racing surface.
Pokorski rolled off from the third starting spot in the 30-lap Jerry Richert Memorial A-main and maintained third place in the first five laps. On lap 6, Pokorski fell to fourth when Logan Julien assumed the third spot.

Six laps later, Pokorski regained third when Julien crashed in turn two. On lap 17, Pokorski advanced to second when Kaleb Johnson hit the backstretch wall and flipped.

In his debut weekend of competition at Cedar Lake Speedway, Pokorski put together smooth and consistent laps down the stretch on the way to his first career IRA podium finish and IRA career-best second place A-main showing.

“We really needed a run like that after having such a poor run of luck lately,” Pokorski said. “That definitely lifted our spirits, and it made for a fun night. I've felt like we have had good speed lately. We just kept having issues that led to bad results. Some of them were mechanical failures, and others were the result of me trying too hard.”

The team is tentatively slated to compete in a pair of IRA events this weekend, starting on Friday, Sept. 12, at Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis., and finishing on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek, Wis.
