The Pirtek Renegades Winged Sprints filled the pits at Cedar Lake Speedway, for night 2 of the 25th Annual Jerry Richert Memorial Sprint Car Event, with 27 teams prepared for competition. The event was delayed past 7pm due to rain, with the perseverance and dedication of the track crew, making it possible for us to wave the green flag. The top five starting drivers in the 20-lap feature were Brad Peterson, Casey Lang, Garrett Tatnell, Tony Kaus, and Jack Lobin.
The event was an electrifying experience, with track conditions that presented a significant challenge to drivers. The heavy and tacky surface required drivers to possess exceptional skills, as highlighted by Ogston and Lang's remarks about the track's "super heavy" nature and the need for a "grip it to rip it" strategy. Rookie Willie Ewing's impressive drive from 23rd to 7th was a testament to his burgeoning talent.
Brett Peterson's notable performance from 29th to 9th further underscored the competitors' adaptability and skill. The event offered a captivating blend of close racing, strategic driving, and standout performances, with Ogston's winning move from 6th serving as a prime example of how to leverage track conditions and outmaneuver the competition.
Following Ogston to the finish line were Brad Peterson, Garrett Tatnell, Jeremy Lizakowski, Keegan Coss
Tatnell was crowned our 2025 UMSS Winged Renegade Champion
