Inside Line Promotions – TULARE, Calif. (Oct. 22, 2025) – Dominic Scelzi produced another successful Trophy Cup, finishing third in overall points out of more than 50 competitors during the marquee event at Thunderbowl Raceway last weekend.

Scelzi kicked off the 31st edition of the three-day event last Thursday.

“We qualified third in our group and went eighth to fourth in the heat race,” he said. “That gave us good points and lined us up ninth in the main event. At one point we got to sixth and were right behind fourth and fifth. A car half spun in front of us and we had to lift. I lost two spots and ran there until the end when I picked up one more spot to run seventh.”

That was the preliminary night the team used as Friday’s program featured Scelzi timing in 12th quickest in his group before placing fifth in a heat race, sixth in the B Main and 24th in the A Main.

A run from seventh to fifth place in a heat race on Saturday lined Scelzi up 17th in the 50-lap main event that was fully inverted.

“I felt we were in a good position,” he said. “My only concern was if guys fall out or pull off it gives free spots to the guys starting on the back row. That’s what really hurt us as several cars didn’t finish. I didn’t know where the other guys with higher points than I had were, but knowing we got to fifth by the end of the race felt good. That’s usually a place where I thought that’d be enough for us, but it wasn’t quite enough to win.”

Scelzi charged from 17th to fifth place, which was the third-most positions gained in the race. He finished third in the final standings – only 12 points out of the lead.

“I’m happy with the performance,” he said. “You want to win it, but I felt we did everything we possibly could have to create the best outcome. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough. I think just being a little better in the main event on the first preliminary night was the only place we could have improved.”

Scelzi plans to compete this Saturday at Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway in Bakersfield, Calif., during the October Classic with the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series. He placed third during this race last year.
