The Scardifields Smash Repairs King of Wings, to be held this year on Saturday, November 15, is a time-honoured event on the WA speedway calendar.
Over the years some of the biggest names in the sport have won this event and it’s a favourite race for many.
This year is no exception and thanks to the support of Frank Scardifield and the Scardifield family, it’s one that all the drivers and crews respond to.
It is also round three of the 2025-26 Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series.
Kerry Madsen and James McFadden will be back in WA for the first time this season, driving for their WA-based teams, Diamond Bay Motorsport and Brady Motorsport respectively, and they will be joined by Queenslander Ryan Newton in the Sean and Dot Carren owned team.
They will take on a big local field for the 40-lap shootout.
The difference with this race is that there will be a compulsory infield pitstop, that will be called about mid-race distance.
This makes the race a game of strategy, with teams able to tinker with their set-up at the halfway point.
Defending Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series champion Dayne Kingshott will be aiming to win this event for the third year in a row.
Twelve months ago he won it from Callum Williamson and Kris Coyle.
Last year the race was one of attrition.
Kingshott was able to control his car enough to win on the rubber down track that proved brutal on tyres and put some of his rivals out of the contest when their tyres ran out of rubber and deflated.
Of the 23 cars that took the green light, only seven took the checkers.
Heat race winners last year were Williamson, Kingshott and Jason Kendrick, with Kaiden Manders and Brad Maiolo starting on the front row after winning the Revolution Racegear A and B Dashes.
How will it play out this year?
