Bad luck strikes for Hafertepe in Florida

After the short 10 week break, World of Outlaw driver Sam Hafertepe Jr. out of Sunnyvale, TX takes the Fusion Energy Boost J&J down to Florida early this month to start out the 2009 season. Sam went down there knowing it was going to a little rough because earlier in the off-season, he was involved in an incident with a lathe and tore his hand wide open. Still in the healing process, Hafertepe decided to head to Florida anyways to begin the nine race, eleven day speed week. The series did not go all that hot for the third year Outlaw driver, Sam had the bad luck flag over his head all week as cut tires, his healing hand and 3 blown motors kept him from finishing anywhere one would normally see the Fusion Energy Boost J&J Chassis. “We went down there knowing my hand was going to give me some issues, but we didn’t expect everything else to go wrong as well,” explains Hafertepe. “It seemed like when things starting looking right for us, something stupid would happen. We have a couple weeks before we head out to Vegas, so we will get back to the shop, get our motors fixed and be ready to rock and roll for the 26th.” Hafertepe did have some very impressive runs during the speed week though; including a top four drive throughout the majority of the February 5th All Star Show in Volusia until a cut tire kept him out of the front. The speed week consisted of two races in Ocala racing with the All Star Sprint Series followed by a three day All Star Event and the Outlaw openers in Volusia.

Next up for the Plumb Fast Racing Team will be Las Vegas Motor Speedway on the 26th followed by an early March run out in California. “I am very excited to run Vegas, I have never been there but I hear it’s fast and especially exciting for the fans!” explains Sam. So stay tuned with Sam and the gang through his website www.sam15.com, for that the Vegas results will be posted right after the event.
