Freeman Wraps up First Micro Sprint Season With Another Top 10

Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (Dec. 10, 2013) – Cody Freeman wrapped up his inaugural season in a restricted 600cc micro sprint with another top-10 finish last weekend during the Longhorn Shootout at Texas Motorsport Expo.

Although it ended early, Freeman was happy with the results after his 10th-place result on Saturday inside the rodeo arena.

“We went there for the experience and the opportunity,” he said. “I felt like I learned a lot. It’s one of the most challenging races I’ve had to race this year because of it being inside a rodeo arena. With the technical driving aspect of it, I had to stay on top of my game.”

In only his second nonwing race, Freeman advanced from fifth to third place during his first heat race last Friday.

“Basically, I just had a good start,” he said. “I was directly behind second place within a lap. Being in a bullring rodeo arena it was really hard to pass.”

Freeman also finished third in his second heat race after starting on the pole of the 10-lap heat.

“About halfway through the race I turned in to turn three too soon and slid up the track,” he said. “I did the same thing on the start. It was a learning curve.”

When Freeman returned to the bullring on Saturday for the feature, he lined up on the outside of the second row for the 20-lap main event.

Freeman spent the first lap in fourth place, but entered turn one a little too fast on the second lap. He made a judgment call to slam the brakes rather than run into the back of the third-place car, which spun Freeman around. A couple of other cars had nowhere to go and smashed into Freeman’s car, which blew the left rear tire and broke the chain guides.

Freeman was unable to resume the race and he was credited with a 10th-place finish.

“I considered it a good weekend and look forward to the next race,” he said.

Freeman will take the next couple of weekends off before returning to action at the 29th annual Tulsa Shootout at Tulsa Expo Raceway in Tulsa, Okla., Jan. 1-4. He will compete in the winged restricted 600cc micro sprint class to kick off the new season.
