Inside Line Promotions – TULSA, Okla. (Jan. 16, 2014) – It’s been an exciting last 24 hours for Dominic Scelzi, who learned late Wednesday night that he was honored as the 410 Rookie of the Year by the North American 410 Sprint Car Poll voting panel of media members, promoters, sanctioning officials and manufacturers.

Scelzi captured his first career King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series feature victory last season en route to earning Rookie of the Year honors with the premier California series.

“I was getting text messages from a few people saying congratulations and I was confused,” he said. “My friend showed me the announcement that I won Rookie of the Year and I was really excited. I was speechless.”

Scelzi continued the positive vibe on Thursday during his debut at the 28th annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire at Tulsa Expo Raceway driving for Cole Wood Racing.

Scelzi led all eight laps of his heat race to pick up the win and then finished fourth in a qualifier, which earned him enough points to advance to the main event.

“It was really good,” he said. “By the main event we stepped it up. We felt good all main event long. All in all, it was a great night. It means the world to me to be able to run as good as we did.”

Scelzi battled just outside the top 10 for the entire race before ending with a 14th-place result.

“I can’t thank the Wood family enough for the opportunity to race in the Chili Bowl and for the great work by Anthony Knighten and Gary Isom,” he said. “The last couple of nights have been amazing.”

Scelzi and the rest of Cole Wood Racing will return to Tulsa Expo Raceway on Saturday to wrap up the Chili Bowl.
