Stewart, Babcock & Anderson Thrill Limaland’s Fans

(Lima, OH) Firecracker Friday is always a fun race to catch at Limaland Motorsports Park. The relaxed and patriotic atmosphere during the day disappears when Limaland’s three, ultra-competitive, divisions hit the racetrack. With seven races left in the season, The Bud Thunderstocks, PCC Modifieds, and Elwer Fence Sprints were revved-up and ready to go when the National Anthem ended.

Jeff Babcock started on the outside pole of the Professional Computer Company Modified feature. He wasted no time taking the lead and held a slim advantage over Terry Hull at the halfway point. Todd Sherman was able to ease past Hull on lap fifteen. A crash involving Mike Roediger, Tony Anderson, and Michael Tarlton brought out the red flag on lap seventeen. Anderson needed some assistance after suffering a hard impact on the driver’s side door bars. Anderson gingerly exited his car and the race resumed. Babcock maintained his dominance of the Modified division by collecting another feature win in 2009.

The Elwer Fence Sprints welcomed the return of past champion, Mike Brecht, who had been noticeable absent from competition due to a medical issue. Jared Horstman took an early lead with JR Stewart in tow. Horstman had smooth sailing until Dallas Hewitt stuffed his car into the wall exiting turn two. Hewitt got upside down and collected Brecht as he tumbled back down the track. Brecht did a quick flip and landed back on his wheels. Once racing resumed, Horstman headed back to the top and Stewart looked for grip out of the bottom groove. Stewart started showing Horstman his nose by lap 18 and successfully passed Horstman a lap later. The reigning Sprint car champion proved he was the car to beat for the 2009 title as he collected another feature victory.

Tony Anderson, with a sore left side and duct taped shoulder, drove a gutsy race in the Bud Thunderstock feature. With the possibility of a broken collarbone, his crew did what any other team would do for their driver. They bandaged the current point-leader the best they could, stuffed their driver into the car, and secured the window net. After fending off Tim Bowen for 15 laps with one hand on the wheel, Anderson eased his car to a stop in victory lane and waited for his crew. He wasn’t just waiting to celebrate, he was waiting for them to unhook the net, pry him out of the seat, and help him get his feet on solid ground again.

Anderson’s gutsy effort exemplifies they type of dedication all the race teams have and the type of effort, made on behalf of every American, by those who protect and enjoy our freedoms.
