ASCS Sooner Region at Creek County This Saturday!

[i Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (July 20, 2009)]

There has been plenty of variety with the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region in 2009 with five different winners in the season's initial six events.

The question is, will there be a sixth different winner when the series takes to the always unpredictable ¼-mile Creek County Speedway clay oval in Sapulpa, OK, this Saturday night?

The chances of another winner are pretty stout given the fact that just one driver among the current top ten in points, Brady Bacon, has posted a win this season. Bacon, the 19-year-old from Broken Arrow, picked off his first career ASCS win this past Saturday night at Lawton Speedway.

Joe Wood, Jr., a winner of three Sooner features this year, enters Saturday card 28-points ahead of 19-year-old Glenpool, OK, shoe Matt Covington, who was less than a handful of laps away from snaring his first ASCS win on Friday night at Oklahoma City.

While Wood and Covington have established themselves as the primary title contenders, third-generation Tulsa-area racers Donnie Ray Crawford and Bacon enter the weekend, ranked third and fourth, respectively, with Missouri's Kyle Bellm rounding out the current top five in points.

Bellm is just 45 points ahead of fellow Show-Me Stater Brad Graham, with the balance of the current top ten including Robert Sellers, Sherman Davis, Andy Shouse and Chris Lloyd.

Nick Smith has posted a pair of Sooner wins this year, both at Oklahoma City, with other series winners including Brian McClelland, Bacon and National invaders Gary Wright and Danny Wood.

Saturday's action at Creek County Speedway is set to go green at 7:00 p.m.

Creek County Speedway is located southwest of Tulsa off I-44 Exit 211, then 0.3 miles south on SR 33, then one mile west on SR 66. For more information, contact the track at 918-247-6675.

The American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region is slated for a dozen nights of racing action at six different tracks throughout Oklahoma, Texas and Missouri in 2009.
