Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 30, 2014) – Brandon Hanks is soaking up everything he can each time he hits the track at Knoxville Raceway.

“I just need to wrap my head around being smoother on the wheel,” he said. “I have short-track syndrome. I need to adjust to the half mile. It’s hard not to make yourself turn the wheel too soon. You have to be real smooth.”

Hanks made his season debut at the half-mile oval last Saturday.

“We had a bit of engine trouble,” he said. “We had too much fuel to it. We leaned a little on the rich side and the motor was popping in hot laps and time trials. We got behind the eight ball.”

Hanks qualified 33rd quickest and finished where he started – ninth – in his heat race. That lined him up on the outside of the sixth row for the B Main.

“We changed the gear trying to turn more RPMs,” he said. “We got some positions on the start, but in the long run it hurt us. I got better with every lap. The biggest thing right now is we have to make laps and I have to learn how to drive this place.”

Hanks ended with a 12th-place finish in the B Main at Knoxville Raceway, where he will return this week for the 24th annual Arnold Motor Supply 360 Knoxville Nationals. His preliminary night is Thursday with the $10,000-to-win finale on Saturday.

“Our goal is to make laps,” he said. “It doesn’t matter if we’re in the E Main on Saturday. We need to make laps and get better. I hope we’re in the C Main or B Main, but right now I’m focused on getting better every lap that we run.”

Hanks will also make his debut at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa, on Monday for the Front Row Challenge with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
