Pair of Big Events on August Slate at DCRP!

A pair of special events on back-to-back Saturday nights headline this month’s schedule of racing action atop the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval in southwest Kansas.

It begins with DCRP hosting the fourth and final leg of the Second Annual Freedom Tour featuring the non-wing Sprint Cars of the USAC Southwest Sprint Car Series on Saturday night, August 16.

Then, one week later on August 23, the track unveils a new tradition with the Inaugural running of the Sport Modified Mayhem event.

The August 16 tilt that also includes the track’s championship chase divisions of IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and Thunder Cars will put the wraps on the Second Annual USAC Southwest Sprint Cars Freedom Tour.

It will mark the fourth and final night of action for the Arizona-based series after stops at Oklahoma’s Lawton Speedway on Wednesday, August 13, and Creek County Speedway on Thursday, August 14, before crossing over to Kansas at Wichita’s 81 Speedway on Friday, August 15, and then concluding at Dodge City Raceway Park on August 16.

Last year, New Mexico’s Rick Ziehl topped two of four Freedom Tour events, including the finale at Dodge City Raceway Park. Multi-time Arizona Sprint Car champion Charles Davis, Jr., and Oklahoma’s Danny Smith also picked up Freedom Tour wins.

Running under essentially identical rules to the local ASCS and NCRA competitors sans the wings, a number of Regional hotshoes will test the best of the USAC Southwest Sprint Car series in the $2,500-to-win, $250-to-start tilt at Dodge City Raceway Park.

Tickets to the Second Annual USAC Southwest Freedom Tour finale on August 16 are $20 for adults with children 11 and under free when accompanied by an adult.

Following the annual wingless Sprint Car outing at DCRP, the IMCA Sport Modifieds take center stage on August 23 with the $1,000-to-win Inaugural Sport Modified Mayhem event.

Current track points leader and defending champion Jeff Kaup of Woodward, OK, will lead the charge of regular DCRP competitors against a host of top challengers from throughout the region in the inaugural event of mayhem.

Along with the Sport Modifieds, the track’s championship chase divisions of IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, Thunder Cars and Hornets will be in action as well on August 23.

Tickets to the Inaugural Sport Modified Mayhem event on August 23 are $12 for adults with children 11 and under free when accompanied by an adult.

Dodge City Raceway Park is located on the south edge of Dodge City, KS, on US 283, then 0.9 miles west on US 56, then 0.1 miles south. For more information, contact the track at 620-225-3277 or check www.dodgecityraceway.com.
