Limaland’s 74th Anniversary Is A Crowd Pleaser!

(Lima, OH) The 2009 Brad Doty Classic was historical in so many ways and the accolades from fans and race teams continue to arrive. It’s disappointing when the race is finally over, yet Friday night, when Limaland Motorsports Park resumed its regular season division championship competition, if you closed your eyes, you could still hear the echo of the mighty Outlaw engines and see the HUGE smile on Steve Kinser’s face. With just six races left and big money on the line, the 74th Anniversary Race had all the thrills, and spills, one would expect at Ohio’s Quarter-Mile of Thunder.

Lowell, Michigan’s Mark Anderson made his first visit to Limaland Motorsports Park a memorable one. He started next to pole-sitter, Casey Luedeke, and quickly snatched the lead in the Professional Computer Company Modified feature. Anderson held the lead when the caution came out for UNOH modified driver, Steve Schnapt. He spun in turn three while running in third. On the restart, current point-leader, Jeff Babcock, rolled out the welcome mat and blasted by Anderson to take the lead. Anderson pushed his pace a little too hard and spun on lap twelve. Babcock’s power steering failed as Todd Sherman pressed him for the lead. Sherman made a successful pass and took home the title and a check for $1500.00.

Jared Horstman has been leading a lot of laps lately. Unfortunately, they haven’t been the last lap. Friday was no different for Horstman. He led the first half of the race with Dale Bleney in tow. Blaney, the winner of the last two Engine Pro NRA Sprint Invaders races, had a distinct advantage over Horstman as they began working through traffic. With ten laps to go, Blaney slid his way from the bottom to the top in turns one and two. He parked himself on Horstman’s front bumper and never looked back. Blaney took home his second Anniversary race title in a row and the $2000.00 that came with the win. Rob Chaney (started 11th) and Sheldon Haudenschild (started 17th) passed numerous cars as they charged to the front. Chaney finished in second and Haudenschild in seventh.

The Bud Thunderstock feature began with Jeff Babcock up front and ended with Jeff Babcock up front. Over the course of the fifteen-lap feature, Zach Bowen and Mark Hiatt had a big collision in turn two. Both were unable to continue. With two laps left a yellow flag restart found Tony Anderson on Babcock’s bumper. Anderson was unable to challenge Babcock, and ultimately fell victim to Jim Post who powered his way past Anderson at the finish line.

This Friday, Limaland Motorsports Park will hold the Fricke Thunderstock Select. In action will be the Elwer Fence Sprints, Professional Computer Company Modifieds and Bud Thunderstocks. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. with hot laps beginning at 6:30 p.m. Racing begins promptly at 7:30 p.m.
