Covington Rallies For A 7th Place Finish At The Highbanks

Covington Motorsports- GLENPOOL, Ok. (August 20, 2014) After a few weeks off since Knoxville, it was a seventh place finish for Matt Covington and the Covington Motorsports team at the Salina Highbanks Speedway with the ASCS National Tour on Sunday night.

Covington would continue his recent high pill draw streak and start inside row four in the heat. Once the green flagged waived in heat race action, Matt did all he could to claw his way forward getting the needed passing points. At the finish Covington would settle for the fourth position.

With the fourth place finish, Matt would advance to the redraw and draw the 7th starting position for the feature.

With the feature underway, Matt would immediately start working to break into the top-5, only to have an early race incident halt his charge. After contact with a fellow competitor, Covington would have to rejoin the field at the back. Matt would go to work once again trying to gain back the lost track position. With the laps winding down Covington was able to charge inside the top-10 doing all he could to advance higher. At the drop of the checkers Matt would ultimately have rallied into the 7th finishing position.

“Saturday night was an emotional roller-coaster for me,” stated Covington. “After the up and down year we have had, I wasn’t surprised as much as bummed when we got spun out from behind because I felt we had a good car. I was running up front when the accident occurred. But in the end I was relieved it didn’t ruin our night and we were able to rally back for a solid 7th place from the rear of the field. It was nice to be able to hang out and see all my fans, friends, and family racing so close to home. I would also like to say “Thank You” to Jerry and Donna Graves, they have been friends of ours over the last couple years and appreciate them stepping on board to help us out with needed resources to keep a competitive car on the racetrack. We are looking forward to the upcoming races and we will just keep doing our thing, stay positive, and see if we can’t pick up some podium finishes or wins in the weeks to come.”

Matt and his Covington Motorsports team would like to thank T&L Foundry, Triple X Chassis, A-Rock Materials, Winters, Brodix, C.G. Martin Company, Factor 1 Racing, All-Star Performance, Outlaw Wings, Pro Shocks, DMI Components, Keizer Wheels, ButlerBuilt, Simpson Race Products, GME Steering, Wesmar Racing Engines, Bob Hurley RV, Eaton Industrial, Maxwell Oil, and Schoenfeld Headers for their support in 2014.
