Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (Oct. 21, 2014) – Brandon Hanks showcased elite speed during the 41st annual Winter Nationals last weekend at Devil’s Bowl Speedway.

“Every time we hit the race track we were fast,” he said. “We had a really good car. That was the best car I’ve ever had at Devil’s Bowl. It was a good weekend.”

Hanks powered from seventh to fourth place during his Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour heat race on Friday, which locked him into the main event. He lined up on the outside of the sixth row for the 25-lap feature.

“Friday night it was pretty hard to pass,” he said. “I tried to make the bottom work and lost two or three spots. I went back to the top and got in line.”

Hanks finished 13th in the main event.

He returned to the half-mile oval for Saturday’s event, which began with Hanks maneuvering from sixth to second place in his heat race.

“On the initial start I had the lead, but they called it back,” he said. “On the second start I made it to second and raced (Brad) Loyet. About Lap 5 or 6 I put a slider on him and we both about went off the race track.”

Hanks advanced into the feature redraw thanks to his strong heat race and he pulled the No. 2 in the random draw to line up on the outside of the front row for the main event.

“The bottom was the place to be and I got hung out there for about two laps,” he said. “I was able to jump to the bottom right behind (Aaron) Reutzel. Then I was coming out of turn four about four laps in and the rear end broke so I pulled into the infield. It’s hard to complain because we were fast. At the same time we wanted that good finish.”

Hanks was credited with a 24th-place result following the rear end issue.

He is slated to compete this Wednesday through Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., for the 27th annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals Presented by Hoosier Tires with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

“We’re pretty confident about this week,” he said. “I want to repeat last year or better. We made the A Main last year and finished 10th. I feel like we’re a lot better this year. Hopefully that’s the case. As long as we execute every time we hit the race track we’re going to do well.”
