Dominic and Giovanni Scelzi Aiming for Golden Drillers at Tulsa Shootout

Inside Line Promotions – FRESNO, Calif. (Dec. 30, 2014) – Dominic and Giovanni Scelzi are searching for the same thing entering the 2015 season-opening event.

The brothers are heading halfway across the country to compete in the 30th annual Speedway Motors Tulsa Shootout Wednesday through Saturday at the River Spirit Expo Center in Tulsa, Okla., where the feature winners of the prestigious event drawing nearly 1,000 entries will receive a Golden Driller.

“We’ve won the qualifiers and the heat races,” Giovanni said. “We’ve done that. The only thing left to do is win a Golden Driller.”

Giovanni had a breakout performance last year during his second trip to the event, where he competed in four classes and finished tied for the most combined heat race and qualifier victories. He also scored a pair of top-10 finishes in feature action.

“Everything was perfect until the main events,” he said. “The first race we were running third and got involved in a crash. In the second race everyone got spread out and it wasn’t a very racy race. In the final main they redid the track before the main event and it was follow the leader.”

Giovanni will compete in four classes – outlaw winged, outlaw nonwing, “A” class winged and “A” class nonwing – again in 2015.

Dominic, who crewed for his younger brother last year, will also be in a family micro sprint at the Tulsa Shootout. He will compete in the outlaw winged and outlaw nonwing classes, marking his first race at the River Spirit Expo Center since his debut in 2012.

“I feel pretty confident going in because I’ve raced micros a lot throughout the years,” he said. “We had a lot of speed with my little brother last year and were really fast when I went as well. Of course I’d love to bring home a Golden Driller, but I’m hoping my brother and I can have a fun weekend.”

Dominic won a heat race and a B Main en route to a 19th-place finish in the outlaw winged feature in 2012. He also won an outlaw nonwing B Main before placing 21st in the main event that year.

“It’s a good race to go have fun,” he said. “We had the car sitting around so we decided we’d throw it together. I’m looking forward to competing with my brother.”
