At long last, Dodge City Raceway Park fires back to life this Saturday night.
And in grand style it will be with the powerful NCRA Sprint Cars along with DCRP championship chase action for IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and IMCA Hobby Stocks.
Saturday’s green flag flies at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday’s tilt at DCRP, the first action since April 25 following a May 9 rainout, kicks off a run of six consecutive weekends of competition at the state-of-the-art 3/8-mile clay oval in southwest Kansas.
Those six weekends will include a little bit of everything, with championship chase action supplemented by URSS Sprints Cars, the Steve King Memorial on the final Friday of June and then the World of Outlaws “Boothill Showdown” on July 3-4.
Kicking off the spurt of racing activity is the NCRA Sprint Car series on Saturday night, with the series trying to get in just its second card of the year since the season opener at Wichita topped by Danny Lasoski on March 28. Mother Nature has intervened since that time.
Reigning NCRA co-champion topped the most recent series event at Dodge City Raceway Park, topping last June’s Steve King Memorial. Johnson went on to tie for the 2014 series title with Michigan transplant Jeremy Campbell. Jon Freeman, J.D. Johnson and Jeff Stasa also finished among last year’s top five.
While the NCRA Sprint Cars headline Saturday’s action, the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and IMCA Hobby Stocks will offer up all kinds of wild racing action as well.
Clay Sellard and Michael Pepper will try to stay perfect in DCRP competition after both going two-for-two in the opening pair of events for IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Stock Cars, respectively.
While Sellard has topped both Modified mains, defending track champion hasn’t let him get too far out front in the title chase by finishing second in both features to stay within ten points. Kevin Gray, Jimmy Brozek and William Nusser are also among the early top five.
With his pair of Stock Car wins, Pepper is 14 points ahead of the duo of Dusty Witthuhn and Ron Hartman that are tied for second.
While Jeremy Sigler and Jeff Kaup have split wins thus far in IMCA Sport Modified action, Kevin Tabor holds a slim four-point lead over the trio of Mike Appel, Bart Baker and Pepper that are tied for second as only 14 points separates the top seven.
Matt O’Hair topped the most recent IMCA Hobby Stock main event to take an early six-point lead over opening night winner Cody Davis with Reagan Sellard another two points back in third.
General admission tickets to Saturday’s action are just $20 for adults, with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Pit admission is $30.
The 2015 slate of events at Dodge City Raceway Park includes 15 nights of competition with a number of special events along the way, highlighted by the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars Boothill Showdown on July 3-4.
