Championship Battles Heating Up at DCRP

With the United Rebel Sprint Series invading Dodge City Raceway Park for the first time of the year on Saturday night, the track’s championship points battles are in full swing.

Last week’s racing action resulted in three lead changes with Jeff Kaup, Ron Hartman and Cody Davis each moving to the top of their respective point charts in IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and IMCA Hobby Stocks.

Clay Sellard extended his lead in IMCA Modified points with a third consecutive win, though the battle for position behind him is tight throughout the top ten.

Luke Cranston leads the Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars into Saturday night’s action as Jed Werner is out to the early URSS Kansas points lead through the initial three events with a 24-point advantage over Steven Richardson.

Racing action goes green at 7:30 p.m.

Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars:

Saturday’s makeup of the May 9 rainout is the first of four visits for the United Rebel Sprint Series and the third round of competition for the Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars after Ty Williams and Luke Cranston have both posted first career DCRP wins in the opening two rounds.

Clay Sellard is off to a three-for-three start to build up a 48 point lead over defending champ Austin Allen, who is just three points ahead of Jimmy Brozek in the battle for second with Ryan Heger making a leap to fourth after chasing Sellard to the line last Saturday.

Two-time and defending champ Jeff Kaup made the jump from fifth to first in points after chasing Josh Appel to the stripe last week, though his lead is just two points over Appel father Mike. Only 15 points separate the top five.

IMCA Stock Cars:

Posting his second runner-up finish in a row after a third-place run in the season opener, Ron Hartman took advantage of Michael Pepper’s first night outside of the top five to shoot to the top of the point charts. Hartman is five points ahead of Pepper with Dusty Witthuhn just two more points back in third.

Cody Davis picked off his second win in three tries to break out to an 11 point lead over fellow Bucklin shoe Reagan Sellard.

General admission tickets to Saturday’s action are just $15 for adults, with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Pit admission is $30.

The 2015 slate of events at Dodge City Raceway Park includes 15 nights of competition with a number of special events along the way, highlighted by the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars Boothill Showdown on July 3-4.
