Lake Odessa, Michigan (Sunday June 27th, 2014): The high-powered 360 Sprint cars headlined the racing program at the fast 3/8ths (0.375) mile semi banked dirt oval of the I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Michigan on Friday night. They were joined by the UMP DIRTcar Modifieds, UMP DIRTcar Pro Modifieds, UMP DIRTcar Street Stocks, and UMP DIRTcar Sport Compacts.
Defending track champion Nick Jenema picked up his fourth win in the UMP DIRTcar Sport Compacts feature event. He finished over Joe Pironello and Summer Woodring. Jenema was also the heat winner.
The UMP DIRTcar Street Stocks saw the defending UMP DIRTcar Stock Car national and track champion Josh Frye make the visit to the winner’s circle. He worked his way to front after starting sixth in the field. This was his fifth win of the year. Rick Huisken finished just behind in second. Luke Hubbell, Sadie Klein, and 18-year old Carlind Forsythe rounded out the top five. Frye and Renton Joling were the heat race winners.
The UMP DIRTcar Pro Modifieds held their main event which saw Travis Lacombe rise to the occasion and take home the win. The second place finisher was Chad Mauer. Jordan Bailey, Kenny Playter, and Jacob Bailey completed the top five. The heats were won by Jordan Bailey and Brody Bowser.
2011 track champion Jacob Poel topped the field in the UMP DIRTcar Modified feature event. After starting fifth, he was able to work his way to the front and go on to get his sixth win of the season. Defending track champion Travis Stemler finished second. Mark Anderson, Steve McClees, and Jason Hoogerhyde finished the top five. Hoogerhyde and Stemler won the heats.
Finally, in the 360 sprint cars feature event it would by Jay Steinebach besting the competition and taking the checkered flag home. Chris Pobanz took second. Trey Smith, Gregg Dalman, and Mark Aldrich completed the top five. Brett Mann was the lone heat winner. The dash was won by Dalman.
This Friday July 4th will be I-96 Speedway’s Night of Destruction. The show will feature the West Michigan off Road Derby, The Gaunlet, A demolition derby, and a spectacular fireworks show presented by M-66 Fireworks.
