Dustin Daggett Wins Open Sprint Car $1000 to Win Special at I-96

Lake Odessa, Michigan (Friday August 8th, 2014): The I-96 Speedway was back in action after being forced to cancel their program last week due to heavy rains in the area. The show was headlined by an invitational for Open Sprint Cars. The show brought some of the best sprint car drivers in the surrounding area’s to the fast 3/8ths (0.375) mile semi banked dirt oval in Lake Odessa, Michigan. The UMP DIRTcar Pro Modifieds, UMP DIRTcar Street Stocks, and UMP DIRTcar Sport Compacts were on hand as well.

Nick Jemema was the winner of the UMP DIRTcar Sport Compacts feature. Greg Pinard finished just behind in second. Christina Sherwood completed the top three. Jenema also won the lone heat race.

The UMP DIRTcar Street Stocks squared off in their feature event. When it was all said and done it was the defending UMP DIRTcar Stock Cars National Champion Josh Frye taking home the checkered flag for his ninth win of the season. Luke Hubbell finished second. Ron Harper, Marty French, and Richard Hyvarinen rounded out the top five. Renton Joling and Frye won the preliminary heat races.

The UMP DIRTcar Pro Modifieds would see Johnny DeYoung top the field to pick up the win which was his fourth of the year. Kenny Playter finished in the runner up spot. Bart Whittenbach, Calivn Stemler, and Austin Wonch finished the top five. Chad Mauer and Jerry Hunt won the heats.

The Open Sprint Cars feature hit the speedway and when the dust settled it was Dustin Daggett scoring the big win. This was the Daggett’s second win of the year at I-96 Speedway. Chase Ridenour was the runner up. Daggett and Robert Huisken won the heats.

This Friday August 15th the I-96 Speedway will be headlined by the return of the high-powered UMP DIRTcar Late Models, and the UMP DIRTcar Modifieds. Joining them will be the UMP DIRTcar Pro Modifieds, UMP DIRTcar Street Stocks, and UMP DIRTcar Sport Compacts. The Pit gates will open at 4:30pm. The grandstands will open at 5:30pm. Hot Laps will take place at 6:30pm and after pre-race ceremonies/invocation/ national anthem(s) the green flag will fly at 8:00pm.
