OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - Trey Marcham has clenched the USAC West Coast Sprint Cars Rookie of the Year title. Rounding out his 2015 sprint car tour in the Western World Championships at the end of November, Marcham also claimed runner up in the series points standings.
"We've faced some adversity this season but all the work has been worth it. The team never gave up and both being Rookie of the Year and finishing second in points is an honor," said Marcham.
Marcham's final race of the 2015 season took place on Thanksgiving Day at the historical, 75th Annual Turkey Night Grand Prix in Perris, CA., where he drove the Josh Ford Motorsports 73 Midget for the second year in a row. After finishing 4th in heat race number 1, Marcham transferred to the 98-lap feature event in the 16th slot. Starting deep in the line up, he knew he had some ground to make up for.
"I wasn't happy with how I qualified," said Marcham, "and I knew I was going to have to drive hard and hold strong from the start."
Marcham battled to the upper half of the field, missing a handful of collisions along the way. Despite fighting battery troubles during the last five laps of the race, Marcham finished in an impressive 8th place among a stacked field.
"We had a good run at Turkey Night and the car felt good until the battery started to die," said Marcham. "But I'm always striving to be better so now my focus is on the future."
Marcham's next race will take him back to his roots. Over New Year's weekend, he will be competing at the Tulsa Shootout with brother, Josh Marcham, where Trey won two coveted Golden Drillers last year. Later in January, Trey will be running at the biggest midget race in the world, known as the Chili Bowl Nationals. More information about these national events will be released at a later date.
