Inside Line Promotions – SOMERTON, Ariz. (Jan. 11, 2016) – The 2016 season started like an amusement ride for Seth Bergman at the 2nd annual Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown.

It was up and down for Bergman, who made the feature out of more than 45 drivers twice during three races at Cocopah Speedway before he was forced to miss the final weekend because of a mechanical problem.

“I don’t like the way it ended, but we certainly learned some things,” he said. “It’s good to get as many 410ci races under my belt as possible because we’re learning more about the car and I think it helps when I race 360s.”

The event began on Jan. 1 with Bergman placing fifth in a heat race and second in a qualifier. That relegated him into a B Main, where he ended seventh to miss a transfer by only three positions.

He returned to the 3/8-mile oval the ensuing night and things began to click late in the program. After finishing seventh in a heat race and sixth in a qualifier, Bergman charged from ninth to fourth place in a B Main. He used a late-race pass to secure the final transfer into the 30-lap main event, which he started last.

“I felt really good in the B Main and that carried over into the feature,” he said. “It’s difficult when you start that far back because you’re always in dirty air and at the mercy of the cars in front of you. We did the best we could to pick off as many cars as possible.”

Bergman maneuvered from 24th to a 16th-place result, which was tied for the most cars passed.

Bergman’s final race at the Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown was last Wednesday. He ended sixth in a heat race, but pulled away to a dominant qualifier win. That lined Bergman up on the outside of the front row for a B Main and after a second-place result, he locked into the 20th starting position for the main event.

Unfortunately, Bergman’s night was undone by a mechanical problem midway through the race after he had advanced into the top 15. He was credited with a 19th-place finish.

Bergman returns to action this week as he tackles the 30th annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals Presented by General Tire at Tulsa Expo Raceway in Tulsa, Okla. Bergman will drive for A.J. Felker Racing at the marquee midget event with preliminary action scheduled for Thursday and the finale on Saturday.

“Just like the Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown, it’s a fun event to be a part of,” Bergman said. “With so many drivers on a small track it takes a lot of luck and the right decisions to have a successful week, but that’s part of the fun.”
