Inside Line Promotions – TULSA, Okla. (Jan. 20, 2016) – Johnny Herrera finished one spot out of a transfer twice during the 30th annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals Presented by General Tire last week at Tulsa Expo Raceway.

Herrera, who was driving for SpeedQuip Motorsports at the marquee midget event, kicked off the action on Wednesday by advancing from seventh to fourth place in a heat race. He then maneuvered from eighth to sixth place in a qualifier, which lined him up on the inside of the second row for a B Main.

“We passed a couple of cars in the qualifiers and if we had passed one more we would have locked ourselves into the A Main,” he said. “We ran third most of the whole B Main. It seemed like every yellow I wouldn’t get going for a lap or two. At the end the one guy we knew starting at the back coming through there was Sammy (Swindell). We got three wide on a restart and I got the short end of the stick and came out running fifth and boom the race was over. Without all those restarts we would have been fine.”

Herrera placed fifth in the consolation race to miss a transfer by only one spot. That relegated him to the fourth starting position in an E Main on Saturday.

“I just faded on the start,” he said. “I wasn’t real good. At one time I was almost back to dead last. Once we got rolling we could race well.”

Herrera tried to recover from the slow start and he rebounded to a fifth-place result, which was once again only one position out of a transfer.

“Of course you always want to do better, but it was a fun Chili Bowl,” he said. “Thanks to everyone at SpeedQuip Motorsports for the opportunity and great experience.”
