Brian Brown- Two Big Ones This Weekend!

Brian Brown and the Casey’s General Stores/FVP #21 are excited for not only the opener at the historic Knoxville Raceway this Saturday night, but also an ASCS-Warrior region event Sunday at the Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia. Last Saturday, the Grain Valley, Missouri driver racked up another podium finish at the I-80 Speedway near Greenwood, Nebraska with the Nebraska 360 Series.

Your original plans in southeast Iowa were frozen out, so you headed to I-80.

-I-80 was really our only option with everywhere else getting weathered out. It was cold and windy, but we were happy to be racing. It was definitely a good draw to start the heat (the pole). When you looked through the field in that heat, it was probably one of the toughest you’ll see all season. We were able to win, and do what we were supposed to.

What was your mindset heading into the feature?

-We knew we had a good car. We redrew a four, and we knew with the cars around us that we would need to be really good for the feature. From the drop of the green, we were a little too tight. We really couldn’t get down and rotate the corners the way we’d hoped. We were still able to go from fourth to second and kind of ran down (leader) Ian (Madsen) there.

There was someone on the move behind you though, wasn’t there?

-We were racing with Ian and trying to make a move for the lead. All of a sudden, here comes Dusty Zomer a lane or two lower than we were. He drove by us both and left Ian and me to battle for second. It was one of those deals where we weren’t as good as we needed to be, and obviously, the #82 was really good.

I’m sure it was good knowing you had a good car again, especially early in the night.

-It was still a good night. We’ve been in the top five and in contention ever since we’ve started this year. We haven’t put ourselves up front yet, but you put yourself in contention enough nights, you’re going to win your fair share of races.

Not much needs to be said about the opener at Knoxville!

-At Knoxville, you don’t need to much hype with what the place means. You add the season opener to it…if that don’t get you up on the wheel, I don’t know what will. We’re excited to get back there and get dialed in. I feel the things we’ve changed in the offseason are going to be really good. With a field of cars there second to none, we better be on our game or we’re going to get beat.

It’s an exciting time in central Missouri with several races scheduled for Sedalia again.

-Impact Signs, Awnings and Wraps are sponsoring the event again on Sunday. They’re a huge partner of ours, and we’re really excited about the things that Gerry Olson and the guys in Sedalia are doing to bring racing back there. The weather looks good at both places and I know the fans are itching to see some racing so we’re excited!
