(SANDUSKY, OH, July 19rd, 2016)- The calendar continues to approach the date of the Hy-Miler Supermodified Nationals. This highly anticipated event is under two weeks away and will feature two touring groups as the Sandusky Speedway hosts the International SuperModified Association and the Northcoast Vintage Oval Racers during a three day event scheduled to take place July 28th, 29th and 30th!
First, the ever popular O’Reilly Auto Parts Fan Appreciation Night will feature the Wolfpack Sportsman division, in which Jerry Karl, the overwhelming favorite and most accomplished driver in the history of the division, is under siege by drivers like Logan Cooper, Jeff Karl, and Clayton Karl who are all looking to take his seat at the head table in the season-ending awards banquet.
The Street Stock division has two drivers, Mike White and Mark Reson, who are both relatively new and hunting their first championship. Add in a veteran like Doug Cantley and you never know what may happen in the Milan Automotive Street Stock division.
The speedway’s Melinda! Melinda! Hobby Stock division will also be in attendance. Richard Clem leads the speedway's points. However, Brandon Halcomb and Dan Smith with many wins each have dominated victory lane, with the teammates taking all but two checkered flags this season. One of the best parts of this event will be the price to the fan, as general admission tickets, pop, beer and hot dogs will all be just $1 apiece.
Friday the 29th will see the International SuperModified Association and the speedway’s weekly modified division run full racing programs in preparation for the longer and more prestigious Saturday events. The ISMA portion of Friday’s events will see “the world’s fastest short track racecars”, the winged supermodifieds, compete for forty laps around the half-mile speedway. Former winners of this Friday Night Fast 40 include Charlie Schultz, DJ Shullick, Mike Lichty, Ben Seitz, and Trent Stephens. All of those drivers are expected in the field along with at least twenty more.
Saturday the 30th will bring the 39th annual Hy-Miler Supermodified Nationals to a close in spectacular fashion as ISMA competes for one hundred laps. This will be complemented with the modifieds running a $1000-to-win feature. Dave McKnight, Mark Sammut, Timmy Jedrzejek, DJ Shullick and Lou Cicconi are all former winners of the 100 lapper and are expected in the field. Cicconi looks to repeat his 2014 triumph as Mike Lichty looks to capitalize on his points lead and previous wins at the speedway in order to collect a first victory in the 100 lap affair.
