Inside Line Promotions – PENNGROVE, Calif. (Aug. 2, 2016) – Chase Johnson is returning to Knoxville Raceway for the next two weekends for the first time since 2014.

Johnson and car owners Shawn and Cyndi Thomas will tackle the Capitani Classic this Sunday before the 56th annual 5-Hour Energy Knoxville Nationals the following week at the half-mile oval in Knoxville, Iowa.

“With the Capitani being a couple of days before the Knoxville Nationals it will be great practice,” Johnson said. “It’s one of if not the hardest races in the world because you run against pretty much the same group of guys in the Nationals all in one night. I’m looking forward to feeling out the track and feeling out the car.”

Johnson competed at Knoxville Raceway three times in the summer of 2014 with a best result of 12th. However, those races were in the 360ci class and the next two weeks will be in the 410ci division.

“I feel confident going there because the laps I’ve had there before will help us out,” he said. “It’s really awesome. Your first couple of laps around there are something special. It was a dream come true getting to run around that place.”

Johnson said his goal is to get the car and himself dialed in during the Capitani Classic to give the team the best chance at a successful run during the Knoxville Nationals.

“I’ve heard so much about the 410 Nationals,” he said. “I’ve never been there to watch it. I’ve heard the atmosphere is crazy. I’m looking forward to getting there and experiencing it. I can’t thank Shawn and Cyndi Thomas enough for believing in me and giving me this opportunity.”
