Callihoo Racing - Race Report Aug - Sept 2016
With it being September brings end of season so time for us to get caught up of our race results for Aug - Sept.
Drayton Valley Speedway - On Aug 6th we raced at Drayton Valley Speedway to defend our 2nd place in Track Championship points. We had a good race day and finished 2nd in Heat 1 and 4th in Heat 2. For the Main Event we placed 3rd. Wayne had abit of a slow start battling it out with Ed Wiersma for 3rd on a tight dry race track. Wayne was able to stay in front of the #57 of Ed Wiersma and catching 2nd place #14 of Kyle Van Ulden. Wayne was able to get side by side for 2nd but ran out of laps and settled for 3rd.
Castrol Raceway - On Aug 13th we were back to Castrol Raceway. Once again rain was threatening us but was able to get the race in. Wayne finished 3rd in Heat 1. Wayne placed 6th in the main although the right rear shock and Torsion bar went weak but was able to hold onto 6th place and is 5th in track points.
Castrol Raceway - Sept 10 is the final race for the season at Castrol Raceway and entered the night 5th in points. Rain was once again at the track as it has been all summer but luckily only a small amount and not affect the races. Wayne had a few issues on the start of the car with a couple of fuel leaks which my crew repaired and ready for the heat race. Wayne was in heat 2 and the unfortunate happened to 3 racers in heat 1 with a bad crash with all 3 cars flipping and all damaged beyond repair. All drivers were ok. Wayne finished 4th in Heat 2 although the car seemed to stumble on the starts. For the Final Main race of the season Wayne was running 4th for 15 laps then a caution came out for the 3rd place car. The car was still stumbling on restarts and Wayne had a hard time getting the car to get going on the restart but was able to hold onto 3rd place. The car handle went away big time on the last 5 laps and Wayne was able to hold onto 3rd for the finish. Later we found that one of the steering arms came loose cause a poor handling car. Wayne has official finished the season 2nd in points. This being Wayne’s 3rd season in Sprint car and thrilled that we made 2nd in points in the rain shortened season, 2015 3rd in points and 2014 9th and Rookie of the year making the championship list all 3 years after not racing for 14 years since 2000 in a Alberta Outlaw Modified. Wayne’s last full season of racing before his come back in 2014 was 1998 and finished 2nd in points to the Late Dan Billey. Callihoo Racing in 1999 had Sonny Tonner as the driver for the full season and finished 3rd and 2000 Wayne race a partial season while moving to Langley, BC. So many people to thank getting us to 2nd. My crew, Sonny Tonner, Kim Edinger, Dan Cornilous, Al MacIntosh, Dustin Paquette, Kelly Daniels, Crystal Callihoo, Emily Callihoo, Ron Mega. Technical help from Chevy Goodhope, Gee and Gee Racing, Kyle Van Ulden. My sponsors CCR Motorsport, Major Overhaul and Equipment Repair.
Drayton Valley Speedway - On Sept 17 Oh and of course we had rain the night before and morning of the race. Track operator Brandon Murray was determined to get the race in. which we did and started to rain about 20 mins after the races was over. Wayne was in 2nd for track points before the night. We finished 3rd in Heat 1, 2nd in Heat 2 Wayne led most of the race and the hard charging Chevy Goodhope passed us with 3 laps to go. The main race Wayne had a great race and followed track points leader Chevy Goodhope but no luck catching the his great driving and settled for 2nd place. Wayne holds his 2nd place in points with Chevy Goodhope in first. Wayne is holding 2nd place in track points for both track we have run this season, making a great season with our new chassis this year being a 2015 Triple X Chassis that Tim Gee of Gee and Gee Racing talked us into running in 2016.
