Throttle Issues End Sprau’s Night Early

26 Promotions – Peoria, AZ – (March 14th, 2017) – Last week was full of firsts for Clay Sprau as he made his debut in a Micro Sprint. Saturday night was another first for Sprau, his first time running the car non-wing.

Sprau’s night started off with Heat race action where he would start 6th. Sprau would move up to 5th as the field came out of turn 4 to complete lap 1 and he’d grab the 4th position coming out of turn 2 just past the halfway point of the 8 lap Heat. Sprau would hold the position for the final 3 trips around the track to finish 4th.

Sprau, who is running for Rookie of the Year honors, would have to start in the back of the field in 16th position.

“The car was a little tight in the Heat,” said Sprau. “But I figured the track would loosen up in the Main, so we only made a slight air pressure adjustment.”

Unfortunately for Sprau, his Main event would be over before a green flag lap was completed.

“I had taken the high side,” he said. “A car on the bottom came up and made hard contact to my left front. The impact jerked the wheel out of my hand and bent the left front hub.”

Sprau was able to continue, but the issues continued on the next attempt to go green.

“A pebble wedge itself in the throttle linkage,” he said. “It hung the throttle open and I had no choice but to pull off ending our night early.”

Sprau would be credited with an 18th place finish.

Sprau will get another shot at Non-Wing racing on April 1st when the Power 600 Series returns to action after a two-week break.

Results:
Heat: 4th -> 6th
