Park Jefferson International Speedway, Jefferson, SD – 5/31/2017

The BM Motorsports team raced Saturday, May 27, 2017, at the Park Jefferson International Speedway IMCA Racesaver 305.
The night started off with practice that turned into time trials. The #36 machine was 2nd quick by four one hundredth of a second while passing a car in practice. If the team would have known it would have been used as time trials, they would have positioned themselves better to get a better time. It didn’t seem to matter with the Myers power plant under the hood, as that gave them a 5th place starting position in the heat. Martin quickly moved to 2nd position, which put them in the redraw. They drew a 9 pill giving them a 9th place starting position and ended up finishing 4th.
“I felt like we had the fastest car there and should have won the race, but with the invert the way it is and only running a 15 lap feature, we just couldn’t get to the leaders in time,” Martin said. “Our Myers Racing engine and Eagle Chassis makes my job easy behind the wheel.”
BM Motorsports also raced in the 360 Unsanctioned race and qualified 5th quick, started 3rd in heat race, and ran 4th. Started 14th to 5th in the feature.
“We had a very fast race car the first 15 laps or so, the race track was extremely rough in turns 1 and 2 and our car rolled right through the holes,” Martin said.
“As a driver, I felt like I made 5 mistakes throughout the race that cost us from running at least 3rd,” Martin said. “It seemed like every time a caution came out, I would either get brake checked on the start and about kill the motor, a giant mud clod would hit my helmet and break the shield, or we would just flat get passed before the race was even started.”
Sunday night the team headed to I-80 Speedway Sprint Series of Nebraska 305 sprint series. Martin started 7th and went to 3rd in the heat race and 9th to 10th in the feature.
“We really had a good race car, our result didn’t show it though,” Martin said. “There was some mind games being with the front row starters, the pole position car didn’t take off on the start as I believe he felt the outside had jumped the start and it caused a huge congestion with the inside row of cars. The outside rows had a free and clean shot to get going, it seemed like we were back to 15th or 16th on the first lap. Unfortunately, there was only one groove to race on right around the bottom and we just couldn’t make much happen from there.”
“We are really looking forward to getting up to Jackson, Minnesota, to race with an all sprint car event at a top notch facility,” Martin said. “I really feel like our engine program is on the top of its game and we will be strong.”
