In a night that saw one of the all-time greats Ricky “Racer” Stephan notch win number 100, drivers and fans alike enjoyed a fabulous night of racing on Pepsi night at Park Jefferson Speedway. With a racing surface that was near perfect and large field of 106 cars on hand and racing finishing at 10:30, fans could not have asked for more.
The highlight of the night was defending SignMasters IMCA Champion picking up his historic 100th IMCA Victory. Stephan, who has been competing since the earliest days of Park Jefferson, cruised from his 8th starting spot and meticulously worked his way through traffic to take the top spot. The great victory for “Racer” was his 21st of his career and moves him to 5th all-time in Park Jefferson Modified victories, and means that Park Jefferson accounts for twenty percent of the 100 victory total. Finishing 2nd was a hard fought run from Bob Moore who spun during the feature, went to the back and rallied over Jim Thies to take silver honors.
The Keizer Wheels 360 Sprint Cars were a sight unto themselves as Cody Ledger brought the dive bomb of slidejobs to take the victory. Using a wide racing line between 3&4, Ledger threw sliders at both Don Droud Jr. in the Swensen 24 and Seth Brahmer to take the top prize.
It was Sioux Falls Casey Abbas making his way to the front in the IMCA Sprint Cars. Abbas, who has competed also in the 360 division, was able to pick up his first win by holding off the 2 previous winners in John Lambertz and Colin Smith.
While Stephans victory was the highpoint, the Schaeffer Oil Sport Modifieds put on the feature of the night and perhaps the year. All went smoothly with Cody Thompson taking point and Todd Boulware chasing. In the closing laps, a Boulware slider stuck in front of Thompson but Thompsons front became entangled with Boulware’s rear bumper. The ensuing melee saw Jeff Brunssen, Rusty Montagne and a rear placed re starting Karl Brewer surge to the front. It was a Brunssen dive bomb through 3&4 which saw him come out on top over Boulware and Thompson. Tempers were hot between Thompson and Boulware in tech and will be an interesting story to watch as the season unfolds.
The J&J Fitting Stock Cars saw a new entrant to victory lane as Zach Olivier came from deep in the field to take winning honors over Todd Gereau. The Sioux Falls and former I 90 Speedway competitor now call Park Jeff home and was able to take the lead late in the contest over Gereau and Aaron Cain’s strong run.
The IMCA Hobby Stocks saw the veteran Craig Clift in his blue Stephan Welding 77 utilize the thick cushion to cruise to a top spot. He dominated from the outset and held off Andy Hoffman. The interesting mix is the ongoing fued between third place finishing Paul Menard and Aaron Shearn which is taking the saying “rubbing is racing” to a new level, and is certain to attract the attention of the Park Jefferson officials as the season progresses.
The Fox 620 IMCA Sport Compacts were won by Brody Spreng, who took the momentum off of the bottom and held on to win over David Bates by a car length. Luke Jackson rounded out the field.
The Nebraska Mod Lites put on a whale of a show with Scott Naggatz picking up the feature win with a pas with 2 to go over David Rufferty and Dillon Rufferty. Doug Pollack took a wild ride in turn 4 but walked away ok.

The mid-summer clash between the Nebraska 360’s and MSTS is up this Saturday night as the finale of the Dual in the Dakota’s. The event, sponsored by Motor Parts Central, will be a hotly contested one as drivers will be on the 3rd night of racing in the upper Midwest for the 360 sprint cars. The six IMCA classes will also be on hand for what should be an exciting night of racing. Gates will open at 5 pm with hot laps scheduled for 6:30. Adult tickets are $17, Seniors 70+ are $10 and Children 6-16 $5 with under 6 free.
