Jarrett Martin Wins Power 600 Series Championship at Harvest Hustle

26 Promotions – Friday, November 25th, 2017 – Harvest Hustle Night 1 – Canyon Speedway Park

Jarrett Martin entered this weekend’s final Power 600 Series races with an eighteen-point advantage in the series standings, as he looked to secure his second Micro championship in his six-year career.

“Friday night started out well, we drew a low pill and started on the pole for the heat,” he explained. “At the last non-wing race we struggled a little bit, so we started with some different things on our base setup and we were trying to dial in our new brake system as well. The changes made a pretty big difference all night.”

Martin finished second in his heat after leading the first five laps, the result was enough to lock him into the six-car invert for the twenty-five lap feature, where he would start third.

“I knew we were in a decent spot with our starting position. We tried to stay ahead of the track and made some adjustments to the car,” he said. “We were really fast in the beginning and made the moves for second and the lead early on. But as the laps were winding down, the track got just a touch too slick for our setup.”

Martin lost his advantage over the field as he maneuvered his way through lap traffic in the closing laps.

“The lap cars were pretty tough all race and I lost the lead with three to go,” he said. “I was able to get back up close to the leader, but never in the right position to go for the lead.”

Martin crossed the line in second as the checkers waved, ending his night with a twenty-six point lead heading into Saturday’s wing finale.

“Running second was a pretty big disappointment, especially in a race like that one, but we had a pretty good run overall and found some extra speed in the car for Saturday,” said Martin.

Jarrett Martin – Saturday, November 26th, 2017 – Harvest Hustle Night 2 – Canyon Speedway Park

We spent all morning at the shop cleaning up the cars and getting them ready to run Saturday night and then headed out to Canyon. The track looked like it was going to be pretty similar to the night before, so we just had to continue to stay on top of it.

We drew a forty-one and started fourth in the second heat race. The track had come in pretty well by then, so I knew I had to make something happen early before everyone got spread out since we really needed to make the invert. I took third on the first lap and was right behind second for a while. With about four or five to go, I got by for second but the leader already had about a straightaway lead by then.

The feature was pretty eventful all race. I started fifth and was up to fourth, we were only a couple laps in when I saw my teammate get turned across the front straightaway ahead of me and that brought the first yellow out. We lined back up and after going back and forth with Jr a couple of times for fourth, the two cars ahead of me got together and I had to turn down through the infield. After almost coming to a stop, the green stayed out and we had fallen back a long way. With about twelve to go, we had a yellow and I counted back and figured out we were in ninth. I made a couple passes in three and four and was in sixth place when the next caution came out. The track was starting to slick off pretty bad in some places by then. After a lengthy process deciding what we wanted to do the car earlier in the night, we still ended up too loose at the end of the race. On the last restart, I was lined up seventh and picked off as many cars as I could and was just getting ready to make a move for third as the checkers fell. We ended up with a disappointing fourth, but that was more than enough to bring home the 2017 Power 600 Championship.

I really am happy that we brought home the championship this year. It means a lot to me and everyone who is a part of our team. Clay winning rookie of the year is awesome too.

I have to thank my dad first, for keeping us out there and for everything he does for me. Big thanks also go out to my grandma, Darren and Jessica, Lisa, Clay, Dee, Dale and Jr., Becky, Spencer, Sofie, Andrew, and everyone who has a hand in putting Streaker Racing together on a weekly basis.

26 Promotions do an excellent job with everything they do for me, and they have grown their brand so much in their first year, with handfuls of wins and four championships in 2017.
