CMR Racing traveled to DuQuoin, IL to the Southern Illinois Center this past Saturday. The team would fight a few gremlins all night. The team would get a high draw number of 67 and would start them 7th in the 3rd heat race of the day. “We went out for hot laps and the car was hooking up well. There was a car that spun in front of us and I looped the car to avoid him. When I did that it stripped the wing strut out of the wing. It was a new bolt and nut and stripped right out. I went ahead and ran rest of the hot lap session with the rear part of the wing collapsed and just got some laps on the track since we haven’t been here before.” Chad Orr said after practice.

Chad would start the heat race in 7th and was running well. “We just were holding our line. The start of the race in the first corner everyone bottled up and I went high and took a few spots. Then after that it was just a one lane grove and we had to follow the cars in front of us. These group of drivers are a great group and they did not make a mistake the whole race, so we stayed and finished 6th. We would have had 5th but I missed my mark on the last lap going into turn 1 and let Mark (Chisholm) get by us.” Chad said as he climbed out of the 14c after his heat race.

With the event being based on passing points. Chad’s finish would put him starting 7th in the 1st B-Main of the evening. “We took off like a rocket. We made a shock change along with some air pressure adjustments in the rear of the car. It really responded well and was starting to march right along. When we hit lap 5 going into the 3rd turn my throttle petal went to the floor and the car was running wide open. I was able to “foot” the throttle for a few laps but it was just way too much to handle with us being in traffic and riding the brakes through out the corners. I decided to shut it down and pull off and make sure the car and everyone else did not get tore up.” Chad said as the team started loading the car up.

Chad and the team were happy overall as they have gained the experience of the Shamrock Classic and look forward to next years event. “I want to thank Lauren (Stewart) and everyone at USAC for putting on a tremendous event. We had a great time and learned a lot about the car and how to get around that place. I am ready to come back next year and try our luck again!” Chad stated during the post-race team dinner.
