MONTIETH EDGES DARRAH IN LINCOLN ALL-STAR THRILLER;
Drew Heistand comes from 14th to claim ARDC victory

ABBOTTSTOWN, PA , 6/13/09 - "The Edge" lived up to his name at
Saturday night at Lincoln Speedway.
With a huge crowd on its feet over the final five laps, defending
track champ Brian Montieth came from ninth starting spot to grab the lead
from Cody Darrah going down the back stretch of the final lap and claimed
his first career O'Reilly Auto Parts All-Star sprint car win.
In another race for the ages, Montieth's lead wasn't even secure
after taking the lead with a half-lap to go. In one last-ditch effort to
win, Darrah pulled a slider on the Premier Auto Works/Auto Locator #21 in
the final turns. But the '08 track champ let him go and powered under the
J&K Auto Salvage/Eichelberger's U-Pull-It #89 coming off turn four to cross
less than two carlengths ahead of Darrah at the checkered.
"It was fun," said Montieth while gasping for breath in victory
lane, "I screwed up there in traffic. The driver in second always has the
advantage. Cody ran me clean. The last two weeks, it's just been fun to race
here. You can run side-by-side and nobody's taking you out, and it results
in clean racing...the way sprint car racing should be."
Defending All-Star champ Dale Blaney and Darrah started on the front
row for the 30-lap event. Darrah grabbed the lead at the outset and the two
ran one-two the first 16 laps before Blaney lost a three-lap wheel-to-wheel
battle with Montieth on lap 17.
Montieth quickly closed on the leader as the pair drove through
lapped traffic between laps 18 and 25, with Montieth actually scored the
leader of lap 20. But Darrah used lapped traffic to reclaim the lead on lap
21, two laps before Doug Esh brought out the caution when he stopped at the
end of the backstretch..
Fourth-starting Jim Siegel drove around Blaney for third on a
23rd-lap restart, two laps before Blaney with a tire going down, hit the
outside wall in turns three and four of lap 26, bringing out the final
caution of the race.
Over the final five laps, it was all-out warfare, with Darrah and
Montieth swapping the lead several times per lap.
Alan Krimes assumed fourth for the final restart, and finished
there, with Tim Shaffer the first All-Star to finish in fifth. Sixth through
tenth were 13th-starting Fred Rahmer, Aaron Ott, Daryn Pittman, Brian Leppo,
and Josh Wells.
"We're running a car here tonight that has about 200 races on it,"
said car owner Jerry Parrish, "That's unheard of. You know guys say their
chassis run out in ten races...this car has 200 runs on it. Not the motor,
but the car itself, and it still works. We're going to run it until we
destroy it. Then we'll sit back and laugh about it and give it a little
funeral and say 'thanks, Buddy."
Heats for the 410 Sprinters were won by Rahmer, Niki Young, Cris
Eash, and Danny Dietrich, with Greg Wilson winning the B-Main.
Setting fast time in time trials over the 35-car field was Brian
Leppo with a one-lap time of 13.058-seconds (103.385 MPH), the fastest
one-lap time since the current weight rule took effect.
The Anniversary show was delayed by 1 hour and 50 minutes when hard
rain fell at 8:45 p.m.
