Gregg has Wild Wednesday at Placerville

Petersen Media- Taking advantage of a rare mid-week race in California, Andy Gregg checked his Bret Ervin Racing/7 Industries/Eagle in for action at the Placerville Speedway for battle with the California Civil War Series as the series hosted its annual Wild Winged Wednesday event.

The night lived up to its top billing for the team as they were looking to shake down their new Eagle chassis as they return to action with the Golden State King of the West Series this weekend for a double header in Chico, CA and Medford, OR.

After timing the Ervin Sales Group/Autism Awareness/Wheel Vintiques No.53 in with the 10th quickest lap of the 35 cars assembled, the night began to turn south for Gregg.

After starting third in heat race two, Gregg was holding steady in the third spot until a brake issue saw the Hot Rod Shop/College Cyclery/Borello powered sprinter fall to the fourth and final transfer spot as the caution slowed the race with two laps remaining.

When the heat race got underway Gregg lost another spot as he battled the issue and was relegated to the B main event where he was scheduled to line up in the fifth position.

The third starting Matt Barber was unable to make the call for the B, moving the BR Motorsports/GUTS/King Racing Products entry up into the third starting spot with the top six finishers transferring into the feature event.

In the B, Andy was comfortably in the third spot as the race clicked off laps. On the fifth circuit he began to close on the lead duo of Nicole Miller and Trent Canales until disaster struck.

Miller made contact with Canales, sending Canales upside down, and as Gregg attempted to pass the carnage his right rear tire made contact with Canales sending the Bret Ervin Racing machine pit side for repairs.

When the race got underway, Gregg lined up in the 15th spot needing to get to the top six in 10-laps. He worked his way up into the eight spot as the white flag flew, but hung the right rear off the top of the race track in the first turn and pulled off into the pit area ending his night.

“Normally I wouldn’t say a Civil War race meant nothing to me, but we came out tonight to shake down our new car after our Calistoga crash two weeks ago, and I’m glad we did,” explained Gregg. “We found a few things wrong tonight that we missed in the shop and that’s huge as we get back to action with the KWS this weekend. I’m disappointed with the way things went, but I’m glad we were able to figure some stuff out tonight.

Bret Ervin Racing would again like to thank thank 7industries.com, Ervin Sales Group, Wheel Vintiques, College Cyclery, The Hot Rod Shop, Autism Awareness, Guts Racing, King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, Jiffy-Tite, C&R Racing, Eagle Chassis, Meyer Motorsports, Hinchman Racing, and Bell for their continued support in 2011.

ON TAP: Up next for Andy and his Bret Ervin Racing team will be a return trip to the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, CA for the Tribute to Gary Patterson/Dave Bradway, JR Memorial. The front gates open at 5 pm and qualifying pushes off at 6:30pm with racing set to follow.
