Allard Uses Late Race Pass to Win in Medford

Petersen Media- Saturday night at the Southern Oregon Speedway in Medford, OR, 32 Golden State King of the West sprint cars checked into the pit area and gave the capacity crowd an exciting race during round nine of the 2011 season which saw Jonathan Allard picking up his first win at the track.

The Friday night race in Chico saw Allard and Tim Kaeding share the front row. Ultimately the two were involved in an incident and were forced to tag the rear of field.

Reset to Saturday night, and the duo once again shared the front row for the 30 lap feature.

The initial start of the 30-lap race was waved off after Jason Statler was a flip victim in the first corner. The second attempt to get the race underway was again waved off, this time for Mason Moore who was stopped in the fourth turn.

The third time was a charm as ‘TK’ got the jump as Allard followed closely over the first two laps, as the caution waved on lap two for Andy Gregg, Brad Bumgarner, and Moore, ending Moore’s night. Subsequently KWS flagger, Ryan Rielly, was struck with debris and the red flag flew over the speedway.

Everyone was okay, and TK again got a monster start on the restart as he continued to set a blistering pace on the lightning fast track. Lap seven saw Brad Furr spin, and Danielle Simpson brought the red out again on lap eight.

The restart on lap eight had TK leading Allard, Ian Madsen, Willy Croft, and Evan Suggs in the top five.

As the racing action heated up, the best race on the track was for the third spot as Croft, Madsen and Suggs put on an exciting display of precision passing through traffic.

On lap 14, the caution halted the battle and TK continued to lead over Allard, Suggs, Madsen and Croft.

The next eight laps went off without any incident until Brad Bumgarner’s engine expired brining out the yellow flag that would ultimately change the complexion of the race on lap 22.

On the ensuing restart, Allard got the jump and took the lead from TK. While out front, the Chico, CA driver instantly began putting distance over the rest of the field and held off Kaeding over the final eight circuits to grab his second KWS win of the year and his first career win at the track.

Following JA to the stripe and rounding out the top-ten were TK, Ian Madsen, Suggs, Brent Kaeding, Croft, Dan Menne, Jason Statler, Jayme Barnes, and a hard charging Bobby McMahan who started in the 21st position.

Heat race wins went to Allard, Crockett, T.Kaeding, and Madsen with TK winning the dash. Kenny Allen stopped the clocks with the quickest lap during qualifications, it was Allen’s first career quick time award.

The KWS series will resume action July 1-2 at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA.
