Picks Off Opening Night Win
During the 2010 Dirt Cup in Alger, WA, Shane Stewart never finished worst then third in any race he competed in; fast forward to 2011 and Stewart returned to the race and picked up the opening night win aboard his Silva Motorsports ROCKSTAR/Makita/A.R.T.
Gridding the field from the fourth position, Shane quickly put his Lucas Oil Products/Finley Farms/Cross Creek Trucking mount on top of the race track and grabbed the third spot behind Tommy Tarlton.
Following a lap two restart, Stewart grabbed the second spot and set his sights on early leader, Roger Crockett. As Shane continued to hound Crockett for the point, Crockett’s machine slowed and pulled off the racing surface on the ninth lap bringing out the yellow and putting the Palmero Properties/Probilt Construction in the lead with 21 circuits remaining.
When the race resumed, Stewart quickly distanced himself from the second running, Tommy Tarlton. Within two laps, the Paul Silva prepared car had pulled a straight away lead over the field and began working through lapped traffic.
As laps continued to click off, Stewart continued to master lap traffic and extend his lead on the dry-slick racing surface.
Stewart continued to lead, and picked up the comfortable win on the opening night of the 40th Annual Dirt Cup.
“In these inverted shows like this we would like to start a little deeper in the field, but this car was awesome tonight,” said Shane. “If this thing is as good all weekend as it was tonight I think we’ll do alright as long as we stay out of trouble. I have to thank ROCKSTAR/Makita, Paul and all of our great sponsors for helping me get back out here to the Dirt Cup.
