Gregg Tallies 13th After Opening Lap Flip

After getting upside down on the opening lap of the Howard Kaeding Classic on Friday night in Watsonville, CA, Andy Gregg rebounded to a 13th place finish aboard his wounded Bret Ervin Racing entry.

The 30-lap contest got off to a rough start for the Placerville, CA resident, as he entered the first set of corners a little too hot, got his 7Industries machine sideway, and ultimately upside down.

With top wing, and wheel damage to the Ervin Sales Group/Autism Awareness/Wheel Vintiques sprinter, the Bret Ervin Racing crew patched the car together and Gregg tagged the rear of the field.

As Gregg adjusted to his banged up car, he weathered the early storm of cautions and found himself in the 13th spot by the 12th lap of the feature.

Over the last half of the race Gregg held strong in his position on the tricky surface and salvaged the rough night with a 13th place finish.

Heat race action saw Gregg win from the pole, and then he finished fifth in the dash, giving him the fifth starting spot in the 30-lap feature.

“You can’t win a race on the first lap, but you can definitely lose one and I proved that tonight,” said Gregg. “I made a bonehead move and cost us tonight and I feel bad for the team.”

Andy and his Bret Ervin Racing team would like to thank 7industries.com, Ervin Sales Group, Wheel Vintiques, College Cyclery, The Hot Rod Shop, Autism Awareness, Guts Racing, King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, Jiffy-Tite, C&R Racing, Eagle Chassis, Meyer Motorsports, Hinchman Racing, and Bell for their support as they follow the 2011 King of the West Series.

ON TAP: Andy will be back in action again Saturday, July 2, 2011 gain at the Ocean Speedway for night No.2 of the Howard Kaeding Classic.
