Zach Blurton Sweeps Weekend Racing with POWRi URSS

Oberlin, KS. (06/29/2020) Zach Blurton would rule the weekend with the POWRi Lucas Oil United Rebel Sprint Series presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing. Topping the fields first in Colby Kansas then again, the next night in WaKeeney Kansas.

First, on Saturday, June 27th Blurton would best a 22-car field at Thomas County Speedway in Colby, Kansas, providing excellent racing for the POWRi Lucas Oil United Rebel Sprint Series presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing, becoming the first repeat winner in the 2020 season with the URSS.

Darren Berry would take off with the early lead, but not without a stampede behind him. Halfway through the 25-lap feature event, Zach Blurton and JD Johnson traded slide jobs back and forth with Berry. By lap 15, JD Johnson would grab the lead from Berry with Zach Blurton in tow. Two laps later Blurton would inherit the lead as Johnson would tangle with a lap car bringing out the only caution in the 25-lap event. Blurton would go on to capture the feature win, leading the final eight laps. Ty Williams finished second and Shane Sundquist in third. Koby Walters and Blake Robertson rounded out the top-five finishers.

California’s Blake Robertson was your Keizer Aluminum Wheels hard charger on the night, starting 21st and passing sixteen cars to finish 5th. Koby Walters, Shane Sundquist, and JD Johnson captured heat race victories at Thomas County Speedway.

Then on Sunday, June 28th, Zach Blurton would again raise the racing bar, doubling down on his weekend successes by becoming victorious for the second time over the weekend with the POWRi Lucas Oil United Rebel Sprint Series presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing. Winning at WaKeeney Speedway Blurton would run away from the 28-car entry-list at the 3/8-mile dirt track in WaKeeney, Kansas.

Todd Plemons and Zach Blurton set the pace for the feature event with Blurton taking off with the early lead and never looking back. Plemons followed in the second running position until lap fourteen where Blake Robertson and Ty Williams would get past Plemons. Robertson held off Williams for the second position while Todd Plemons and Kyler Johnson rounded out the top-five finishers for the feature event at WaKeeney Speedway.

Hailing out of Liberal, KS, Koby Walters grabbed the Keizer Aluminum Wheels hard charger on the night by passing eight cars to finish seventh. Zach Blurton, Todd Plemons, and JD Johnson were heat race winners at WaKeeney Speedway.

Next up for the POWRi Lucas Oil United Rebel Sprint Series presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing is Dodge City Raceway Park in Dodge City, KS on July 2nd and Jefferson County Speedway in Fairbury, NE on July 4th. Unfortunately, due to ongoing concerns, the race scheduled for next Friday, July 3rd in Belleville has been canceled. POWRi URSS officials are currently working on replacing affected race-dates.
