Valley Speedway Postpones POWRi WAR King of Kansas City

Belleville, IL. (07/14/2020) Due to ongoing restrictions and limitations by Jackson County and City Officials of Grain Valley, Missouri, Valley Speedway has been forced to make the ultimate decision in postponing this weekend’s racing program that includes the annual running of the “King of Kansas City” with the POWRi Lucas Oil WAR Sprint League.

Originally slated for competition on Saturday, July 18th Valley Speedway and POWRi officials are diligently working on finding a replacement date to be announced later in the season. “As soon as the track knows more and can hold events again at Valley Speedway, we will make the best effort to continue to keep the safety of everyone at the forefront.” Dennis Shrout of Valley Speedway would state about the latest development at the Jackson county track.

Performance Open Wheel Racing Incorporated would like to express gratitude to all tracks, teams, and fans for their continued support and understanding during these trying times. County Health officials have said that the decision was made because of a dramatic increase in the county's weekly COVID-19 case count, as well as an increasing positive test rate, which has nearly tripled to over 14% (7-day moving average) since June 24.

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas announced Friday that people in the Kansas City metro area will be required to wear masks indefinitely. While announcing the city’s next steps in COVID-19 response efforts at a Friday news conference, Lucas said the new order extends the mask mandate for at least the duration of Kansas City’s COVID-19 state of emergency, which is currently set to expire on Aug. 15.

Racing action for the POWRi Lucas Oil WAR Sprint League will now resume on Saturday, July 25th at Monett Speedway in Monett Missouri.
