Rough Return to Santa Maria for Gregg

PETERSEN MEDIA: Making his return the track that he captured his first career King of the West race in May, Andy Gregg learned how the other side lived during his return trip to Santa Maria Speedway as a late race crash ended the Placerville, CA driver’s night just eight laps shy of the finish.

After a ninth place finish in his heat race, the driver of the 7Industries/Ervin Sales Group/Eagle lined up for the 30-lap feature in the 21st spot.

The waving of the green saw the former series winner begin feeling out his racecar as he weaved through traffic as he raced to the front.

As he cracked the top-15 Gregg began battling Kenny Allen and Brett Bjork as the trio battled for the 13th spot.

After finally taking over the 13th spot on the 14th lap, Gregg continued to power his College Cyclery/Autism Awarness/Wheel Vintqiues backed entry both high and low as laps continued to click off.

On the 22nd lap, Gregg lost the handle of his mount and sent his Bret Ervin Racing machine into a series of spins sending him to the back of the 19 cars left running.

The ensuing double file restart spelt disaster for Gregg, as he made contact with another car, sending his pristine looking No.53 into a series of flips down the front stretch ending his night abruptly.

“We didn’t qualify very well, and unfortunately we didn’t race very well,” explained Gregg. “My guys worked their butts off all night, and unfortunately I just made two costly mistakes at the end of the night and tore this thing up.”

Andy and his Bret Ervin Racing team would like to thank 7industries.com, Ervin Sales Group, Wheel Vintiques, College Cyclery, The Hot Rod Shop, Autism Awareness, Guts Racing, King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, Jiffy-Tite, C&R Racing, Eagle Chassis, Meyer Motorsports, Hinchman Racing, and Bell for their support as they follow the 2011 King of the West Series.

ON TAP: The Bret Ervin Racing team will be back in action on Saturday July 16, 2011 as the Golden State King of the West Series makes their second stop at the Antioch Speedway in Antioch, CA.
