PETERSEN MEDIA: After locking himself into the feature by way of his fourth place finish Friday night, Shane Stewart powered his ROCKSTAR/Makita/A.R.T. to a second place finish Saturday during the finale of the Bullring Nationals at the Placerville Speedway, putting an exclamation point on the Lucas Oil ASCS National 2011 western swing.
After the rest of the field ran heat races and points were tallied, Stewart found himself drawing the number two pill, putting him on the front row of the 35-lap feature alongside Friday night winner, Wayne Johnson.
It was Stewart getting the early jump in the Lucas Oil Products/Palmero Properties/Cross Creek Trucking entry, but Johnson was hot on his trails.
As, Stewart continued to pound the top of race track, Johnson was able to sneak underneath him on the 11th circuit as the leaders were in heavy lapped traffic.
The middle stages of the race saw four cautions in eight laps, with Stewart still holding strong in the second position.
After the final restart on lap 23, Stewart continued to pressure Johnson, but Johnson was able to hold Stewart off, and Shane secured the second position.
“It’s a little disappointing to run second tonight, because this was a race I wanted to win very bad with so many friends and sponsors in the house all weekend,” said Shane. “Paul gave me a good ROCKSTAR/Makita car, I just got bottled up in traffic and Wayne (Johnson) guessed right.”
