Amantea Continues to Gain Experience and Confidence With USAC East Coast Wingless Sprint Cars Series

Inside Line Promotions – MINERSVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 13, 2020) – Joey Amantea ran a pair of features with the Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Wingless Sprint Cars last Friday night at Big Diamond Speedway, where he finished seventh and 11th, respectively.

The pair of 360ci sprint car races were the final ones of the 2020 racing season for Amantea as he prepares to make the jump full time to the division next season.

“Big Diamond is kind of a race that we threw together to get some late season experience and it was really a good time,” he said. “I really like wingless 360 racing and it’s where I want to be going forward. As a team we now know what it takes any given night to run well and be prepared and this was a bit of an eye opener for next season.”

Amantea began the night by leading laps in a heat race before finishing where he started – second. That earned a spot into the feature redraw and he pulled the pole position for the first 20-lap feature. With only a handful of starts to his name, Amantea worked through rookie mistakes and a banged-up race car to bring home a seventh-place result.

“We made contact with the guy in second running for the heat win and banged up the car pretty good,” he said. “We got everything put together, but by then my head wasn’t in it like it should’ve been and the results don’t show how fast we really were.”

The feature winner drew the No. 10 for the second feature inversion, which placed Amantea fourth on the starting grid. Focusing on staying clean and gaining experience, Amantea crossed the finish line 11th.

“We missed the setup big time for the second feature and I couldn’t really figure out the track,” he said. “But it was fun to go racing and do it competitively at this level. I’m excited to get behind the wheel of the 360 a lot more next year and we’ve got a good head start on 2021.”

Next up for Amantea will be two nights of wingless micro sprint competition during the 31st annual National Open at Linda’s Speedway in Jonestown, Pa., this Friday and Saturday. The Saturday night finale pays $3,000 to win and Amantea is hoping to come home with a podium finish.

“Last year we were really fast and I think we have a legit shot to win the thing this season,” he said. “With the plan next year really being focused around 360 sprint car racing I’d love nothing more than to close out my final full season in a micro with a big win or a podium.”
