Bad Luck Strikes Once Again

Last Wednesday night August 24th, the STM team went to the Manitowoc County Speedway for their annual fair race. The track was extremely dry slick and made racing very close. Scotty started last in his heat race event and within two laps was up in the 2nd position. After over driving turn three, he fell back and ended up finishing in the third spot. That finish would allow Thiel to start 9th in the night's 30 Lap A-Main event.

After the green flag flew for the A-Main, Scotty charged forward and got a good run going into turn one. He passed several cars and found himself in the 5th spot going down the back stretch. As the field was entering turn three, Scotty took the bottom groove and all of a sudden got hit and flipped. It was a fairly soft flip. From the looks in the pits, all that was wrong was the top wing. That was until the car returned to the work area were the team discovered that the lower part of the frame got bent in about 3 inches. That would put a stop for the night for Scotty and the entire STM crew.

The following day, Scotty and the crew came to the shop and decided to strip the car down and get it to the Sippel Racin shop to get it examined and fixed up and hopefully be able to race Saturday at the Plymouth Dirt Track. The guys did get the car over and Randy Sippel was able to get the chassis fixed up.

The crew hurried back to their race shop Friday night and would begin to start putting the car back together. Everything went well getting the car back together and the team would be able to race Saturday August 27th at the Plymouth Dirt Track.

Scotty drew a 38 pill and started in the 4th row of the heat race. After taking the green, Scotty attempted to take the high side groove and get the momentum to pass several cars. As he was entering the corner, the car in front checked up and Thiel jumped the cushion, falling back to the last position. Scotty charged back and would end up finishing in the 6th position and forced to come through the B-Main event.

Thiel started 8th in the 15 Lap, top 6 transfer B-Main event. The race went green to checkered and Scotty struggled getting the car to work. He ended up in the 7th position and would be the Alternate car for the A-main event. The crew prepared the car for the A, just incase someone else had a problem and could not start the race. Unfortunately, that did not happen and the #64 car and Scotty Thiel would sit out of their first A-Main of the season.

It was an extremely disappointing weekend for the entire Scott Thiel Motorsports team. After having a good run come to a short ending Wednesday night and then sitting out of an A-Main event for the first time all year. The crew is looking forward and putting this past week behind them and preparing for the Labor Day Weekend. The team will not be making the trip to Brainerd, MN for the UMSS Kouba Memorial and Might Axe National races but will be staying around home racing both Friday and Saturday at the Manitowoc County Speedway and possibly making the trip Sunday to the 141 Speedway with the IRA 410 Sprint Cars.
