ASCS Southwest at CSP on Saturday!

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (September 6, 2011) – Winged Sprint Cars return to Peoria, Arizona’s Canyon Speedway Park this Saturday night as the Sunoco Fuel ASCS Southwest Region tackles the 3/8-mile clay oval.

And leading the way into Saturday’s action is Las Cruces, New Mexico’s Rick Ziehl, who tries to move one step closer to a fourth consecutive ASCS Southwest championship.

Ziehl topped the first ASCS Southwest event of the season at CSP on May 21, a win that launched a run of five wins in six events. The only time Ziehl has been denied victory lane sinxe was in the series second stop at CSP on July 23 when wingless ace R.J. Johnson bagged his first career winged Sprint Car win.

Ziehl’s recent run of victories has enabled him to amass a 202-point edge over Calvin Landis in the championship points chase, with Joshua Williams, Lance Norick and Dalten Gabbard rounding out the top five. The rest of the current top ten includes Kyle McCutcheon, John Carney II, Steve Stone, Joshua Hodges and Joey Chester.

Saturday's Sunoco Fuel ASCS Southwest Region action at Canyon Speedway Park is slated to go green at 7:30 p.m.

Peoria’s Canyon Speedway Park is located 25 miles north of Phoenix on I-17 to Exit 223, then 6.3 miles west. For more information, contact the track at 602-258-7223.
