Thompson Dominates Supermodified Summer Championship Presented by CME Electrical Supply

OSWEGO, NY (July 12, 2021) - 19 year-old Supermodified standout Tyler Thompson, a former champion of the Budweiser International Classic, had at least two wins sealed at different points throughout the 2021 season, however fuel issues kept the No. 98T out of victory lane both time.

On Saturday, everything went Thompson’s way in a dominant victory after starting in the fourth position.

“This car was a rocketship again tonight. We have had the worst luck in the world, but I guess maybe it is starting to turn around a little bit,” Thompson said. “I have to thank everybody here, my Dad, Davey, Joe, Big North, Dub, my Mom and everybody that helps me.”

Leading the field to green for the 50-lap ‘Summer Championship’ presented by CME Electrical Supply were Lou LeVea Sr. and Tim Snyder.

Snyder jumped out in front early on with LeVea Sr. settling in for second and Thompson taking third from Dan Connors Jr.

Connors continued to drop back with fifth starting Lou LeVea Jr. and seventh starting Jeff Abold getting by in consecutive laps to knock the No. 01 outside of the top five.

When Thompson got to third, he immediately began to reel in and go to work on LeVea Sr. Thompson made the pass for second on lap 12.

Next up was Snyder. After working the No. 0 over for a few laps, Thompson found his way underneath to take the lead coming out of turn two on lap 15.

Once out in front, Thompson began to pull away with Snyder hanging on for second.

Charging hard, though, were Abold and thirteenth starting Dave Shullick Jr.

Abold was able to get by LeVea Jr. and into fourth on lap 19, and then passed LeVea Sr. for third on lap 27.

Shullick also passed a number of cars; including Otto Sitterly, Brandon Bellinger, Alison Sload and Danzer, before finally going by both LeVea Jr. and Sr. and into fifth on lap 29.

Unfortunately, as Abold tried to go to the inside of Snyder for second one lap later, the pair touched going into the third corner.

This spun Snyder around with no damage, but Abold backed the No. 05 hard into the wall and collected the fourth and fifth place running cars of Shullick and LeVea Sr.

Everyone involved, with the exception of Snyder who had no damage, were out for the night.

This crash moved everyone behind the four cars up four spots with Bellinger, Sitterly, Michael Barnes, and LeVea Jr. now restarting top five.

The pack of veterans behind Thompson did not matter as in the remaining 20 laps, however, as the No. 98T car pulled away for a 1.9 second victory.

It was Bellinger, Sitterly, Barnes, and LeVea Jr. who finished top five with Sload, Keith Shampine, Joe Gosek, Snyder, and Connors filling out the top ten.

For his impressive drive from nineteenth all the way to fourth, Barnes was recipient of the D&S Landscaping Hard Charger while the Lighthouse Lanes Up & Comer Award went to LeVea Jr. for his second top five in as many weeks.

This Saturday, July 17, C’s Beverage Center will present the 34th annual $10,000 to win 75-lap Mr. Supermodified event.
