Sload 'Sends It' for Win in Rescheduled Supermodified Twin 35

OSWEGO, NY (July 10, 2021) - Alison Sload ‘sent it’ from the outside pole to the lead on lap one of last Saturday’s rescheduled Burke’s Do It Best Home Centers and Compass Credit Union Twin 35 and never looked back.

This was the second career Oswego victory for Sload, who became the first woman in track history to win a Supermodified feature event in 2019.

It also means that Nicotra Racing has swept this year’s Supermodified Twin 35’s, with Otto Sitterly having been victorious in the first Twin back on June 19.

“We made a lot of different changes to the car before this feature that we wouldn’t typically make and I just wanted to use it as a learning experience,” Sload said. “Apparently these were good changes. It was a good start and I started up front, but it’s a win. I want to thank all of the guys; Johnny (Nicotra), Otto (Sitterly), and my Dad. I need to thank Peaceful Living Home Sales, Five Brothers Produce, Corr-Pak, Riccelli Northern, Torbert Farms, and my Uncles Dale and Dallas Krapf. I’m really happy. I definitely sent it tonight.”

After a tremendous nineteenth to fourth run in the regularly scheduled feature, Michael Barnes got by Brandon Bellinger for second with 17 laps to go in the Twin 35, but didn’t have quite enough to make it passed Sload.

“Alison did a great job. It’s just tough sledding, no one is really doing anything,” commented Barnes. “I think everybody is just kind of skating the nose across the track, but we’ve got what we’ve got. I really have to thank these guys for everything. They have worked very hard over the last couple of weeks switching motors around and everything, and I can’t thank them enough. Thanks to Joe’s Jerky, J&S Paving, Steve’s Body Shop, and I want to thank my wife for putting up with my schedule this week with both work and racing.”

Finishing third was Bellinger, who picked up his second podium effort of the night, and the third top three result in as many races for the No. 02 team.

“We’ve had a second and a third, so it’s not a bad run tonight,” Bellinger said. “I wish we were a little faster, because we just seem to keep being off a bit to get what we need to run with whoever ends up winning the race, but we will keep working on it. I know there is more speed, so we will come back faster next week. I have to thank my whole crew for helping me out all the time and working on the race car. Thanks to Daratt Farms, Vashaws Collision, SheffDaddy Motorsports, and Orange Crate Brewing. They are all a big part of helping the 02 go fast.”

Sload and Tim Snyder brought the field to green with Sload jumping out in front right away in her No. 39.

Snyder had issues early on, and this allowed fourth and fifth starting Bellinger and Barnes to sneak by for second and third.

The polesitter, Snyder, continued to drop back before pulling the No. 0 pitside on lap 3.

With 10 laps compete, it was Sload, Bellinger, Barnes, and sixth starting Joe Gosek way out in front of the field.

At the halfway point, the leaders began to enter lapped traffic, and this is when Barnes capitalized to take second from Bellinger going into turn three.

Once Barnes made it into second, he was never able to close enough ground on Sload to pressure her for the race lead.

With the leaders checked out and several car lengths in between them, the battles on the track were behind the top two as Bellinger and Gosek duked it out for third.

Jeff Abold and Dan Connors Jr, who started in eighth and tenth, were able to bypass Dave Danzer and Tyler Thompson for fifth and sixth.

With three to go, Connors made a great move to get by Abold, earning his first top five finish of the season.

Back out in front, it was all Sload as she kept Barnes at bay in the closing stages for a popular win.

Bellinger held off Gosek for third, Joe finished in fourth, and Connors was fifth.

Abold, Sitterly, Danzer, Thompson, and Hal LaTulip completed the top ten.

Connors took home both the D&S Landscaping Hard Charger and Lighthouse Lanes Up & Comer Awards.

This Saturday, July 17, C’s Beverage Center will present the 34th annual $10,000 to win 75-lap Mr. Supermodified event.
